I have a health update to share. As many of you know, during Christmas week I somehow twisted my back when I got up from a nap and injured a disk. That put me in the hospital overnight, followed by 6 weeks of confinement to let the inflammation subside. Last week, I was cleared to resume my weekly hydrotherapy sessions, but for a shorter duration and at the slowest speed to, hopefully, prevent the inflammation from returning. Pre-injury, I was at 20 consecutive minutes on the underwater treadmill at varying speeds, including the highest. Last week (my first week back), I completed 8 consecutive minutes. Today, in my second session, I completed 9 consecutive minutes and was able to do some floor work by lifting my legs over a series of rails.
At home, I was ok'ed to resume my daily indoor walk starting at 5 minutes, and a couple of sit/squat/stand exercises. I've now increased my indoor walks to 11 minutes and my sit/squat/stand exercises from 6 to 14. My PT team says that the weakness in my back left leg is not permanent (whew and yay) and we can rebuild its strength over time. I continue to wear back paw pad grippers, too, to help me walk steadily across non-carpeted floors during this time.
As I resume my PT, I'm tired afterwards but otherwise ok and my energy returns nicely after a nap. Here's a quick look at my hydrotherapy session today. As pet parents, I hope this will help you get familiar with pup PT and its potential should you ever need it. Your continued prayers and healing thoughts will be very much appreciated as I continue this journey. Hugs and love ❤ to you all.
