On July 4th we learned, as many of you did, that children in our Dallas community, were lost suddenly as a result of the flooding of the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas. We live in such a strong and connected community that we know many of you and your families have been impacted by this tragedy. At times like these there are no words for the deep grief that we all feel collectively. We also know that many of you are concerned about how to talk to your children and how to walk them through grief at this very time when you are still reeling from these events. Discussing grief and loss is difficult, and communicating with children requires special care and sensitivity.

The Surgeon General just confirmed what parents already know: Parenting is HARD! The demands of parenting have increased in recent years, along with the demands in almost every other area of life. Parents need support at an individual level and a societal level.
What can parents who are already feeling overwhelmed do? Start by considering your needs for sleep, food, water, connection, and movement like you do those of your kids—we don’t outgrow these needs!
If you would like the support of a clinician, Sparrow House has therapist trained to provide support for a number of parent concerns, including peri- and post-natal mental health, parenting support, childhood behavior concerns, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and more.
