Pretty coloured MRI scan showing our body's beauty :)

An MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) scan is a technique that uses magnetism, radio waves, and a computer to produce images of body structures. The MRI scanner is a tube surrounded by a giant circular magnet. The patient is placed on a moveable bed that is inserted into the magnet.

The magnet creates a strong magnetic field that aligns the protons of hydrogen atoms, which are then exposed to a beam of radio waves. This spins the various protons of the body, and they produce a faint signal that is detected by the receiver portion of the MRI scanner.

The receiver information is processed by a computer, and an image is produced. The image and resolution produced by MRI is quite detailed and can detect tiny changes of structures within the body

MRI scanning is painless and does not involve x-ray radiation!

However, patients with heart pacemakers, metal implants, or metal chips or clips in or around the eyes cannot be scanned with MRI because of the effect of the magnet.

Claustrophobic sensation can occur with MRI scanning.

Some of you may wonder why I have taken such a keen interest in neurology as a chiropractor. Well for one, I have had great people to mentor me and guide me. But secondly, neurological rehabilitation is a massively important tool for helping people change their brains. Our brains at the age of 16 are much different than our brains now. The idea that the brain doesn’t change is now known to be false and with specific and direct stimulation to certain areas of the brain, we have the ability to teach people to walk again, teach people to recover from depression and anxiety and help people overcome many neurologically based obstacles!

Study points toward lifelong neuron formation in the human brain’s hippocampus, with implications for memory and disease

"Brain imaging exams performed on high school football players after just one season revealed changes in both the gray and white matter that correlated with exposure to head impacts, according to a new study that will be presented today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA)."

My first post on this page is dedicated to something near and dear to my heart. I grew up as every little boy and wanted to be a professional football player. I wan the sport to thrive but we need to work together to have my studies like this one performed in Dallas to help make the game as safe as possible!
