I hate posting this but with people asking about Liyas soccer schedule this fall I'm saddened to write that after 5 seasons of being loyal to the same team Liya has decided to drop out of soccer.
Why? Well I got a call from her coach at the beginning of summer (before sign ups even started) saying that maybe she shouldn't move up with her team to U16. That it was in her best intrest if she and 1 other player didn't move up.
I asked why ??? Response "The players they would be playing against this fall season are bigger, faster and we just thought it would be in their best interest if they stayed in U14 for another season but if you all don't agree she can move up."
Liya was super upset that she never gave up on her team no matter how many times they lost and they finally started getting better working as a team and that the coaches deemed who was worth moving up and who wasn't.
I said to her maybe she should just sign up and move up or move to another team.
She looked at me with hurt in her eyes and said she'd rather give up soccer than look like a loser to her coaches or traitor to her teammates.
This girl is on the high spectrum of ADHD, has ODD, Separation/Social Anxiety and low on the Autism spectrum...even if she wasn't the best player she really tried her best to help out her team, gave her all and she never would have traded her team for a trophy or winning streak.
Guess winning is more important than building good team work and life long friendships.
