😍🥰😍You will LOVE this smoothie! I’ve been hooked on it since the first time I tried it at a local juice bar 😋 It was the perfect mid-morning “snack”. It’s honestly really filling so I’ll probably have a light and super late lunch. Feel free to modify the recipe to your liking and follow your hunger cues.

❌Starvation and under-eating is the enemy for PCOS. It just leads to bingeing later on We’re trying to level up in 2021 so let’s not play that mess anymore 👋🏾

This smoothie will…

✅fill you up!
✅satisfy your sweet tooth
✅give you a boost of energy (mostly to survive Monday 😩)

✏️RECIPE✏️
2 frozen bananas
1tbsp cocoa powder
1tsp instant coffee
1tbsp h**p seeds
2tbsp nut butter of your choice
1 cup of ice
1 cup of milk (I use oat)

💭Anyone else addicted to mocha flavored “anything”? 🤤

📣Stress is NOT our friend. I can’t tell you how many of my cycles and those of many of our fellow have been delayed simply by stress 😞

Even when you are doing all “the right things”, our hormones will continue to remain imbalanced if we don’t wooooosah and tell that annoying co-worker… “you’re messing with my hormones and my ovaries ain’t got time for that” 🤯

Ok, you might not want to say that or if you’re crazy like I am you could. If you choose not to, use these reminders and remember to give yourself grace ☮️ 🙏🏾 We can’t be cheery and happy all the time but there’s also no use dwelling in the usual mess that is Monday, mmmkay?

You got this! 💪🏾

💭What is the one thing you hope to accomplish today? and how do you plan to remain as stress-free as possible doing it?

💖 This is YOUR journey! Take charge 💪🏾These are just a handful of suggestions of the kinds of questions you are fully entitled to ask. Don’t allow yourself to feel rushed out of the office, dismissed, ridiculed...and if you are find another doctor ASAP # 🏃🏿‍♀️

I fired my first fertility specialist. She was empathetic with all the failed attempts to get pregnant but I felt like a number to their practice and of course every appointment felt like it was 5 seconds long.

The next doctor was AMAZING 🤩 Kind, super successful at helping women just like us and without knowing me just treated me like a PERSON. Sometimes (besides being an expert), we just want to be seen and heard. It really is the little things sometimes.

💭Which one of these questions remains unanswered for you?

💭Which one do you think you’d like to ask at your next appointment?

💭What question is missing that you think is super important for women with PCOS?

✏️Words matter. They really really do. Speak life💚health💚well-being 💚and abundance 💚 into your life. I am a huge proponent of using the law of attraction to your benefit as a woman with PCOS. The law is working whether you like it or not so we may as well use it to our advantage and speak what we want into existence 🙌🏾

Seek out resources, people and places that you can learn from to help you reverse your PCOS symptoms. I hope I make the cut 😉

💖Begin to act on what you learn. Quit waiting for the perfect time, date or to be in the mood. JUST DO IT. Once we get in the groove of trying things it might become fun or be a total disaster. Either way you will learn from it.

💖Have an attitude of gratitude for all the things that bring you joy and peace now. Write them down. Feel the feelings of gratitude for all the little and big things as you make your list.

❌Don’t indulge in negative conversations both online and offline. It’s ok to open about your fears, hurts and struggles (cry if you have to to release pent up feelings) and then do your best to angle the conversation to lessons learned and next steps. If you feel too vulnerable to open up to people that’s ok too. Don’t be hard on yourself. You’re not going to figure it all out in a day. I never did and I haven’t met anyone who did.

Just remember...you got this! 💪🏾

✅ Here’s a meal idea for you ladies! You shouldn’t have tiny portions of anything if your plate is loaded with a colorful array of veggies 🥬🌽🍅. Being hungry and eating itty bitty portions just increases your chances of bingeing on really unhealthy foods late at night🌮🍕🍟. Ask me how I know? 🤦🏾‍♀️

Fill your plate with the 🌈 and make sure you have a little bit of everything…carbs, protein, fat and fiber. I simply boiled and mashed my sweet potato. Sweet potatoes come in several varieties and this is one of my favorites. It’s natural flavor is sweet!

✅ Eating for PCOS doesn’t need to be complicated or overwhelming. It just takes a little bit of planning, creativity and stocking your home with a large variety of fresh foods.

❇️ Healthy & wholesome carbs are LIFE (aka so delicious) when prepared simply.

❇️Delicious healthy fats (like from avocado aka my faaave) will help you feel full and will actually help you lose weight.

❇️Protein from plant and animal sources will help you regulate your blood sugar which is so key since many of us are insulin resistant.

❇️Fiber is crucial. Many of us don’t get enough it in our diet but we absolutely need to. You feel more full and it is what you need to help sweep that gut, lose weight, improve your gut flora and improve insulin resistance.

‼️ I added just one tbsp of barbecue sauce even though I could drink the bottle of this particular brand 😂 (so yum!) because they all have added sugars and we need to be extremely mindful of our “added sugar” intake. I purchase the healthiest version of any processed foods I consume. Read the labels and be sure you understand what ingredients are in the food.

😭 I have spent most of my teenage years and adult life feeling ashamed & guilty for having PCOS. In other words, I felt like I was to blame for my PCOS. Of course no one ever pointed their finger at me and said “this is all your fault” but still, that’s how I felt. So many of you that I’ve met feel the same way.

It simply boils down (for me, as it does for many of you) to culture and upbringing. NO ONE discussed PCOS, its many overwhelming symptoms and worst of all the struggle to conceive 💔

The most powerful tools I found to deal with this shame that I know can help you too are, in no particular order...

💖Admit to yourself you feel ashamed of how PCOS has affected your body and mind. Own where you are now fully. Cry if you need to...the really ugly kind too. That release of emotion is usually cathartic.

💖Speak to yourself the way you would a loving friend. We are always our own worst critic. It doesn’t serve us.

💖Build a support network of friends and/or professionals that you feel comfortable opening up to.

💖Choose a physical activity that helps you learn a new skill and/or gain strength & endurance. It helps you learn to appreciate your body and its magnificence.

💖Start a gratitude journal and make one item of your gratitude list something you feel thankful your body can do.

💭How has shame or guilt around your PCOS affected you? 💭Which item on this list are you drawn to try?

📚 In a 2013 study titled “Pregnancy in polycystic o***y syndrome” they discussed some of the reasons that women with PCOS miscarry 30-50% of the time 😞 while it only occurs 10-15% of the time in “normal” women. I really used to hate that word…normal. I’ll save all the reasons why for another post, or not, because you probably understand why already 🙏🏾

Anyway, the truth is, I’ve had several women ask me this and my response is always the same. If your focus is on balancing your hormones, being in the healthiest physical & mental state possible as well as working with a doctor you trust then I need you to release the worry of potentially losing that pregnancy and speak LIFE into your womb.

💡 Energy flows where attention goes 💡

That aside, the article clearly states that the exact mechanism is unknown but that these are the contributing factors…

♦️Elevated LH levels
♦️Hyperandrogenemia
♦️Insulin resistance
♦️Endometrial dysfunction
♦️Obesity
♦️Impaired fibrinolysis

Most, if not all, of these factors can be improved drastically with all the strategies I discuss on this page. Having PCOS is not a hopeless diagnosis. It sucks, but when your mindset flips, it is a reason to choose YOURSELF every day with the decisions you make and the team you create to help you in your journey. You got this! 💪🏾

💭Have you lost a pregnancy and felt consumed by the reason why?

Life will ALWAYS throw you into seriously stressful situations every so often 🆘 It sucks but it’s true. Do you have healthy coping mechanisms that you’re ready to use?

Learning how to cope with stress, especially as a woman with PCOS, is so incredibly important. It’s old news that stress raises your cortisol levels which raises the inflammation in your body. This all leads to more severe PCOS symptoms for many of us 😩

You want to avoid this at all costs. My stress levels were significantly raised at the beginning of this last week as I mentioned in my last post when we lost all utilities thanks to a snow storm ❄️ As soon as I realized that I had little control over the outcome but I had 100% of the control of how I reacted to it I put these 5 things into effect every day and it truly helped 🙌🏾

We have a few tools within or around us to cope with stress (even without wifi/data & electricity). Here are my fave 5 from this past week. Pick one or two and incorporate them into your routine this week and I assure you it will help 🙏🏾

Do you have any on this list that calls out to ya? Let me know...

📚 I read a (PCOS specific) book about 15 or so years ago when I was still trying to figure out how to deal with my PCOS and it actually gave me fruit fear 😱

Thankfully that fear didn’t last too long because the more I learned the difference between the 2tsps of table sugar I added in the tea I religiously drank twice a day (can’t take the Kenyan out) and fructose the more I realized FRUIT is your friend ☺️ So I still drink my Kericho Gold tea sans sugar and enjoy my fruits whenever I want. They’re full of so many key nutrients your body needs to start reversing your symptoms.

I love that this is discussed everywhere you look now but just in case you have fruit fear like I did and you’re scared it will
make your PCOS worse

✅Eat your favorite fruits!
✅Eat them ripe!
✅Pick a pretty bowl or container you enjoy eating out of 😊
..and enjoy every bite!

❓But what about insulin resistance?

Eat a well rounded unprocessed fiber rich diet of protein, fat AND carbs. Your body wants and needs NUTRIENTS to start healing. I don’t count a darn calorie. Get in the kitchen and create your meals & snacks with wholesome ingredients. Feel grateful 🙏🏾 for the abundance of food you have access to and come back here for more ideas if you need them 😊

❓ Do you or did you have fruit fear?

✅ RECIPE POST ✅

I will sometimes say to my husband that “I feel inflamed” when my body starts to feel a certain way (itchy skin, slow digestion, fatigue, joint pain, a delayed cycle) and then he’ll give me the usual strange side-eye look 🤣 I’ve been on this health and wellness journey for a really long time that I have learned to pay really close attention to my body and like The Weeknd says 🎶 I feel it coming 🎶 .

The first thing I ALWAYS do to start feeling better is add more GREENS to my diet. They are such a powerful weapon in reducing inflammation and the easiest way for me to consume them is with a smoothie 😋😋😋 I love green smoothies & juices so much it’s on my bucket list to publish a revised version of my first recipe book from many years ago. We will soon discuss why inflammation and PCOS go hand in hand for so many women diagnosed with PCOS. But regardless of if you have “inflammatory PCOS” or not, more greens are ALWAYS a good thing for overall health and wellbeing.

Here are 2 of my favorite recipes...
💚Simple & Sweet💚
•2 cups of pineapple
•2 large handfuls of spinach
•1 orange, peeled
•1/4 lemon, peeled
•1/2 glass of ice
•2tsp of h**p seeds

💚Feel Good Greens💚
•2 cups of really ripe mango
•1 banana
•2 large handfuls of chopped kale
•1/2 cup of ice
•1/2tbsp wheatgrass powder, optional

Anyone else “feel” the inflammation coming? Or are you in a constant state of it and don’t know how or where to begin?
