Dallas Reading and Language Services

Dallas Reading and Language Services Our therapeutic approach helps a child change how he or she processes sounds and language. Standard therapy sessions are typically 30-60 minutes twice a week.

At Dallas Reading and Language Services we work with all ages of children and adolescents, from toddlers, pre-school, school-aged children through age 18, as well as young adults. Our Speech-Language Pathologists and SLP-Assistants have high expectations for every child and young adult, as we aim to provide the tools and support they need to succeed. Our speech-language therapy is highly individualized to each student within nearly all areas of communication. "It is important for our students to know we believe they are smart, and that we expect them to do well, in therapy, in school, and in life," says Rachel Betzen, M.A., CCC/SLP, the clinic's founder. Dallas Reading and Language Services provides FREE Speech-Language Hearing Screenings with an SLP, so you and your child can meet us and decide if you would like to move forward with a comprehensive evaluation for speech and language and literacy. We assess problem areas as well as your child's strengths and learning modality. Parents attend a later consultation to receive the written report and discuss the findings and therapy goals. Some students attend once weekly, and occasionally students attend three times a week. Therapy is tailored to address each child's goals in the ways he or she learns best. Activities are structured so students are moving forward with speech, language and reading/writing at the same time. Our Speech-Language Pathologists and SLP-Assistants also provide private pay reading programs for reading decoding and reading comprehension. Reading Programs are specifically tailored to your child's needs, with goals that update as we see progress. For those that attend therapy, this supplement may be added before or after your child's therapy session. This is a private pay service only.

Our Story

At Dallas Reading and Language Services we work with pre-school and school-aged children. Our traditional speech-language therapy combined with the use of reading programs, is highly individualized to each student. Our Speech-Language Pathologists and SLP Assistants have high expectations for every child, and they give them the tools and support they need to succeed. "It is important for our students to know we believe they are smart, and that we expect them to do well, in therapy, in school, and in life," says Rachel Betzen, M.A., CCC/SLP, the clinic's founder. Dallas Reading and Language Services provides comprehensive evaluations for speech-language and reading, and free hearing screenings. We assess problem areas as well as your child's strengths and learning modality. Parents attend a later consultation to receive the written report and discuss the findings and therapy goals. Our Speech-Language Pathologists and SLP Assistants also provide academic language tutoring. This is a private pay service for students who don't qualify for speech-language therapy, but show a good chance of dramatic gains from the use of the reading programs we use. Standard therapy sessions are typically 30-60 minutes twice a week. Some students attend once weekly, and occasionally students attend three times a week. Therapy is tailored to address each child's goals in the ways he or she learns best. Activities are structured so students are moving forward with speech, language and reading/writing at the same time. * Insurance and Private Pay Information: Dallas Reading and Language Services accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, Traditional, AmeriGroup, and Parkland Medicaid, and will soon accept all types of Medicaid for the Dallas area. We will continue to add other insurance plans over time. We encourage private pay families to use our sliding scale to determine the cost of therapy or academic tutoring services. The sliding scale is also available to families with insurance who have used all their allowable therapy visits for the year. Families who use insurance or Medicaid and choose to accept reading services, (if recommended), will pay a small fee for that portion of their child's sessions. About Dallas Reading and Language Services: Our therapeutic approach helps a child change how he or she processes sounds and/or language. Speech therapy is provided by a licensed and board certified Speech-Language Pathologists (Speech Therapists) and SLP Assistants. We provide therapy to pre-school age children, within a context of literacy and learning basic concepts. As our younger clients progress into kindergarten, they are screened for kindergarten readiness skills and any potential reading problems. All of our reading programs are multi-sensory. We use 4 different programs to address: Early Reading (Beginning Phonics) Reading Decoding (Phoneme Sequencing) Listening and Reading Comprehension (Visualizing and using Mental Imagery) Spelling / Reading Fluency (Symbol Imagery) We integrate reading instruction into school-age children's speech or language therapy. Your child will have individualized goals which will be addressed during each session, and updated monthly in a written report to parents.
