*not currently accepting birth doula clients* The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves". It is used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications:50% reduction in cesarean rate25% shorter labor60% reduction in epidural requests30% reduction in pain medication use40% reduction in forceps delivery40% reduction in oxytocin (pitocin) useAll women can have a doula for their birth experience, even those receiving a cesarean section or planned medicated birth. Doulas have the capability to support mamas in every birth location - home, birth center, and hospital. Let me work with you to bring your birth plan to life and have an empowering experience welcoming your little one into the world!

In the strangeness of the world right now, a lot has shut down. One thing is certain - BIRTH is still happening. Check in with your pregnant friends, their birth partners, and the birth workers. Hospitals are limiting (or eliminating altogether) birth support, photography, and other complimentary support for families. Out of hospital midwives will certainly be nearing capacity very soon as low risk families seek alternatives and explore the range of birth options (if you need help finding a fabulous local OOH provider please message me)!

My heart is broken for how this is influencing the birth scene for so many right now, but don’t underestimate a mom. Moms are powerful and resilient. πŸ’ͺ

While the world slept, a family birthed a secret. There is something so incredible about leaving home and returning in the stillness of night, with the stunning beauty of birth happening in the middle there somewhere. It is always always so amazing, and even more so when it’s my second or third time working with a family. πŸ˜πŸŽ‰

Tonight all around the world we light candles at 7pm to remember babies lost too soon.

Some babies were lost a couple of weeks past a positive pregnancy test, some we only got to see on screen, some we got to hold but had to say goodbye to heartbreakingly early.

Some people will be remembering a loss from many years ago and some will be lighting candles for a loss so fresh it physically hurts.

Some will be mourning a baby no one even knew about, some will be with their families and some will be lighting candles on their own.

Some of us will have found our happy endings, some of us will still be waiting and some of us won't know which way to turn.

Everyone will have a different story but sharing those stories will only help us all feel less alone.

Thinking of everybody who is remembering their little lost star tonight x

We believe that birth should be more than just safe . . . it should be a day you feel supported and powerful. The memories you make during labor and birth will last a lifetime. It's worth doing everything in your power to make it memorable and satisfying!

That's why, starting July 15, Frisco Birth Center is offering a $300 discount to any new client who hires a doula, and a $200 discount to any new client who sees a chiropractor at least 10 times during pregnancy! Combined - that's a $500 investment in a safer, more satisfying birth experience.
