Relationships are the currency of the conscious entrepreneur. And like any currency, how you hold them determines how far they take you.

In the FIRE Formula, Relationships is the third element — and the one most people misunderstand. They hear “relationships” and think networking, lead generation, building a contact list. Those things matter. But they are the surface layer.

The deeper question is: what kind of relational presence do you bring into every conversation? Are you genuinely curious about the person in front of you — or are you listening for the angle? Are you showing up as someone who adds value first — or someone who is always calculating what’s in it for them?

People feel the difference. Not always consciously, but they feel it. The entrepreneur who builds lasting, profitable relationships is almost always the one who has done the inner work — who has resolved the scarcity mindset enough to be genuinely generous, genuinely interested, genuinely present.

The darkest period of my life taught me the most important thing I know about happiness.

There were years when I was doing the outer work — building, striving, achieving — while quietly falling apart on the inside. I called it 'The Dark Night of the Soul.' And I stayed in it far longer than I needed to, because I didn't have the tools to find my way out. What eventually shifted was not a single breakthrough moment. It was a slow, steady, deliberate practice of choosing differently — in thought, in language, in the stories I told myself about what my life meant. Twelve-step work. Psychology. Metaphysics. Science of Mind. Meditation. Affirmative prayer. All of it, woven together into something that actually worked.

I wrote Create a Happy Life because I wanted to give other people a shorter path to what took me decades to find. Not a path that bypasses the hard work. Happiness is not the reward at the end of the hard work. It is the fuel that makes the hard work sustainable.

I spent years operating on the assumption that I would be happy once I arrived. Once the business was profitable. Once I had the degree. Once the relationship was right. Once my son was grown. Once the house was paid off. The problem with that model is that the goal posts keep moving and you spend your entire life postponing the experience of your own life.

What I've learned — and what neuroscience now confirms — is that the relationship between happiness and success actually runs in the opposite direction from what most people believe. Happiness doesn't follow success. It precedes it. When you are genuinely, deliberately, practiced at accessing a positive emotional state — you are more creative, more resilient, more generous, more attractive to the right clients and opportunities. Happiness is not soft. It is strategic.

Focus is not about doing more things. It’s about doing the right things — and being willing to stop doing the rest.
One of the most common conversations I have with entrepreneurs sounds like this: I’m doing everything. I’m posting on every platform, offering every service, following every strategy I’ve read about — and nothing is moving.

The problem is almost never a lack of effort. It is a lack of focus. And focus, in the way I teach it, is not about discipline or willpower. It is about clarity — a clear enough picture of what you are building that you can confidently say no to everything that doesn’t serve it.
Focus is the first element of the FIRE Formula because without it, the other three — Ignition, Relationships, Ex*****on — scatter. Energy disperses. Results thin out. And the entrepreneur burns themselves down trying to be everywhere at once.

This week: identify the one activity that, if you did it consistently for the next 90 days, would move your business forward more than anything else. Do that thing first. Every day. That is Focus.

The single most valuable skill in business is not what most people think it is.

It's not your expertise. Not your product. Not your marketing strategy. It's your ability to make another person feel genuinely heard.

I've been studying communication for decades — teaching it on stages, in workshops, in one-on-one sessions — and the pattern is always the same: The people who build the most loyal clients, the most enthusiastic referral networks, and the most enduring business relationships are not the ones who talk the most. They're the ones who listen best. Not passive listening. Active, curious, intentional listening. The kind where the other person walks away thinking: that was the best conversation I've had in a long time. And they're not even sure why.

Here's a simple practice for this week: in your next three conversations, make it your only goal to ask one more follow-up question than you normally would. Notice what happens.

I used to think that spiritual practice and business success were two separate things. Here's when I stopped believing that.

For years I kept them in different compartments. Meditation was something I did in the morning. Business was something I did during the day. They didn't talk to each other. Then one day I noticed something: the mornings I meditated, my conversations were better. My decisions were clearer. I listened more and reacted less. I found creative solutions to problems I had been banging my head against. The mornings I skipped it, the day had a different texture. Tighter. More reactive. Less inspired. I started tracking this. Then I started teaching it. What I know now — after decades of experience and thousands of hours of study — is this: Meditation is not preparation for life. It is the foundation of a life that works. For a conscious entrepreneur, it is not optional. It is the practice that makes every other practice possible.

A Passion for Wisdom

I have had a life-long passion for understanding and knowledge. Some people seek relationships. Some seek power. I seek Truth. Whether it’s about health and well-being, success, marketing mechanics, or spirituality, I am there to think about, study, and write about it.

My passion is helping people experience greater health and wellness while creating greater prosperity in life. I have been an entrepreneur for the majority of my life and love the financial freedom it has awarded me... and I love helping others do the same.

To me, life’s purpose is about accepting happiness. I am not talking about the transitory emotions that are triggered by money, s*x, or even a sense of connection. Happiness is that sense of fulfillment that comes from being fully engaged in life. So, life and happiness are synonyms for me. We need both financial and physical health to do that!
