Scented candles feel cozy… but they can also change your indoor air chemistry. 🕯️
Research shows burning scented candles can increase particulate matter (PM) indoors, and candle emissions can include VOCs/SVOCs and combustion byproducts depending on materials + burn conditions.
Also important: many fragrances contain terpenes (the “pine/citrus/vanilla” vibe). Indoors, terpenes can react with ozone and form secondary pollutants/ultrafine particles—so the “smell” isn’t the only thing in the air.
If you want a simple, realistic approach:
✅ choose unscented (or reduce frequency)
✅ crack a window / use kitchen & bath fans
✅ run a HEPA air purifier
✅ avoid “fragrance” products if you’re sensitive
If you want my low-tox cozy home swaps, comment AIR. 🤍
