FOOD ALLERGY Q&A
What's the difference between food intolerance and food allergy?

A food intolerance is an abnormal response to a food that is not an allergic reaction.

A food allergy results from the immune system overreacting to an ordinarily harmless food.

Examples of Types of Food Intolerances:
*Lactose Intolerance*Irritable Bowel Syndrome*Sensitivity to Food Additives*Celiac disease

Food intolerance can significantly affect your quality of life, but it is not life-threatening like a food allergy can be.

The severity spectrum for food allergies can vary from mild symptoms to a severe anaphylactic episode. Anaphylactic symptoms may include hives, lip swelling, vomiting, diarrhea, urticaria, angioedema, coughing, wheezing, and even cardiac arrest.

Longer days, blooming flowers, and warmer weather are finally here! But for many families, the start of spring also means sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, coughing, and asthma flare-ups.

If you or your child struggles this time of year, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to just “push through it.”
