I watched a patient hold their breath during the adjustment.

Not unusual. Most people brace when they expect something uncomfortable.

But this one held everything. Shoulders locked. Jaw clenched. Eyes squeezed shut.

I stopped and asked them to breathe.

They couldn't.

Not because they were scared of the adjustment. Because they'd been holding their breath through their entire life.

Resistance creates the very pain we're trying to avoid.

Most people don't leave bad marriages because divorce is hard. They stay because mediocrity is easier.

We settle into patterns. Separate bedrooms. Polite distance. Parallel lives under one roof.

Call it companionship. Call it stability.

But somewhere along the way you stopped choosing each other. You just coexist.

Turns out people don't need fear to commit to care. They need someone who sees them as whole.

The hard sell belongs in a car lot. Not in a healing space.
