This mom seriously put it into words better than I ever could ❤️ Here’s what her journey with me looked like, even when the road shifted.
“Kim was such a crucial part of keeping the end of my pregnancy and my birth smooth sailing. She went above and beyond to make sure I was supported, informed, and confident going into my birth. She helped me navigate a changing birth plan when I was faced with a 38 week medical induction, and was able to keep me calm despite my nerves around the increased interventions I would be dealing with. The two meetings we had before labor helped my husband and I prepare as much as we could for what was to come, and it was so nice learning all about informed consent, pain coping techniques, and what to expect with an induction.
During labor Kim was amazing, she was always there to support me in whatever phase of labor I was in. From counter pressure during contractions, applying a tens unit to my back, and helping me stay up and moving despite being hooked up to monitors and wires. I truly think her help was one of the reasons I was able to progress so quickly and smoothly. She was always ready to help with position changes, and also helped us communicate with family in the waiting room. When it came time to push she captured some of the most amazing photos of my son being born that I will cherish for a lifetime. Her support did not end after he was born, she stuck around to make sure I was ok and settled into my golden hour. She offered to get my husband and I food, or anything else we needed as we calmed down from the crazy day.
And then we even had a postpartum visit in the comfort of my own home where I got to talk through my birth with her and process any emotions I had around that, and she got to get some baby snuggles from the boy she helped bring into the world. If you’re even a little bit considering a doula, Kim Allen is your girl.”
