Monday, we’re comin’ in a bit HAWT with the Mini MTHD. for the week.

We’ll save you from the awkward google search and send you in the direction of some solid literature we had the chance to look over this weekend! We’re talkin s*x today and how it is an activity that requires the crosstalk between three different systems within your physiology! A question usually stops people on an intake form or in a clinic meeting because how and why does that relate to anything to do with an appointment with an Exercise Physiologist….. Let’s get to it.

Mollaioli et al. published a Review in the Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology in February 2020 that pulled in data from just under 120 peer reviewed literature that helped better describe how healthy and unhealthy lifestyles impact differently on male and female s*xual function. The correlation of modifiable factors and outcomes/prevelance rates of s*xual disfunction are absolutely something to be interested in, why? Because there are things that we can do to help!
With an understanding of what the effect (some positive and some detrimental) of seven different recreational drugs, physical activity, changes in body composition and stress management can do to both male and female s*xual function can help create balance in s*xual health.

See the link in our story for more info on this literature!

It’s the taking back control for me✨

Connection is important to us. We value your experiences, your emotions, energy, time, and your health. Everyone deserves to feel understood and supported.

This was a note that came to me after a patient visit at the clinic almost three years ago. Working with a population of people that were not unfamiliar to feelings of self doubt and lack of control, notes like this just hit different.

Everyone is deserving of a healthy functioning body.

In the medical world it is traditional to prescribe the evidence-based treatment known to be the most effective and entailing the fewest side effects or risks. Evidence suggests that in select cases exercise therapy is just as effective as medical treatment and in special situations more effective. The accumulated knowledge is now so extensive that it should be implemented. Although there still is a need to define the most optimal type and dose of exercise, it’s time that health systems create the necessary infrastructure to ensure that supervised exercise can be prescribed as medicine or be referred to someone that could do so.

Moreover, it is important that society in general support a physical active lifestyle. People do not move, when you tell them to. People move when the context compels them to do so. To enhance the physical activity level of a population, accessibility and resources are important. YOU have the potential to change someone’s life just with a referral.

You can take control over your health any time, you don’t have to wait for a Monday, for the New Year, or for a Clinician to tell you that you have to.

“Human evolution suggests that the default position for health is to be physically active. Inactivity, by contrast, has serious negative effects on health across the lifespan. Therefore, only in physically active people can the inherent aging process proceed unaffected by disuse complications. In such individuals, although the relationship between age and physiological function remains complex, function is generally superior with health, well being, and the aging process optimized.”
