I'm a firm believer that there are numerous bodywork modalities that are beneficial! Each technique we learn, we add to our toolbox, and it sort of becomes an art deciding with clients what to choose in different scenarios.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is the most requested modality for my clients - either alone or with therapeutic massage. If you've never had it done, it will look different than a massage therapy session in several ways:

1. No oil is used. We need to be able to sustain traction and not slip.
2. Holds are typically 5 minutes or longer.
3. Heat from our hands, time, and pressure/shear help restore glide to the fascia.
4. The amount of undress is less than a massage session since oil isn't used. A tank top and basketball or shorts are great to bring along.
5. We may do deep techniques in specific areas, but most of the work is in the fascial tissue, and we don’t do traditional deep tissue massage work in an MFR-only session.
6. It can feel intuitive to receive. When the practitioner can attune to the fascia, we listen to the body in a different way and follow where the little fascia pulls and shifts in tissue guide us.

CFT is similar and rooted in MFR, but leans into unwindings where fascial pulls are connected to the craniosacral system. More on that later!

Learned a lot of wonderful myofascial release (MFR) techniques last weekend - all things rib cage, neck, back and arms. Intrigued by the structural changes in my body after. (Chiropractor appointment is scheduled - it takes a village!)

Spent a little time enjoying the St. Paul architecture and of course, had to take a Utah classmate out for a juicy lucy.

I currently am taking new clients for MFR in Dassel and can blend myofascial release into a custom therapeutic session. Call, text, email or DM to get on the books.
