More than 1.5 million people have taken the step to get screened through SavedByTheScan.org — and every scan is a chance to save a life. 💙

Behind each number is a person and a story of hope. Screening with a low-dose CT scan can catch lung cancer early and if it’s caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving 5 years or more improves to 65 percent.

Visit SavedByTheScan.org to:
✔️ Learn if you qualify for screening
✔️ Read real stories from people whose lives were changed by early detection
✔️ Take the first step toward peace of mind

In the midst of the 2024-2025 flu season, which was second deadliest pediatric flu season on record, the Trump administration cancelled the "Wild to Mild" vaccine campaign. 280 children died from influenza. The CDC classified it as a “high severity season”

Experts worry this season will be as bad or worse. “We saw a really bad season last year, and I worry that this season could be even worse,” said Jonathan Miller, associate chief of primary care at Nemours Children’s Health and president of the Delaware chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

Luckily, pediatricians are filling the vaccine messaging void.

Norovirus is the leading cause of vomiting/diarrhea and foodborne illness in the United States, and tends to peak during the fall and winter months. There is no specific treatment for norovirus. Most people get better within one to three days, but norovirus can cause severe dehydration resulting in hospitalization.

Staying hydrated is as important as eating fruits, veggies and protein every day. Water supports every system in the body — from regulating temperature to aiding digestion.

✅ Helps prevent constipation and maintain blood pressure
✅ Keeps organs and tissues functioning properly
✅ Normalizes body temperature

Aim for about 15.5 cups of fluids a day for men and 11.5 cups for women — most from water. Avoid sugary drinks, such as soda or energy drinks, and opt for water, tea, milk, or coffee instead. Learn more: https://mayocl.in/47tVwe9

Vaccines play a crucial role in safeguarding against respiratory illnesses such as influenza, COVID-19, and RSV by equipping the immune system to effectively combat these viruses. This proactive approach significantly lowers the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and even death. Additionally, vaccines for pneumococcal disease, whooping cough, and shingles can provide vital protection against respiratory complications that can arise from these infections. To ensure you receive the most effective protection, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider about the recommended vaccines for your specific situation and to stay informed about when they are due. Greene County Public Health is able to provide all of the recommended vaccines discussed and is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. To schedule call 515-386-3228.

Kindness not only benefits the receiver, but also the giver. Make sure to perform one random act of kindness today and every day!

Mental health benefits

Reduces stress and anxiety: Performing acts of kindness, or even observing them, can lower stress hormone (cortisol) levels and increase feelings of calm.

Boosts mood: Kindness increases the production of "feel-good" neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, leading to improved mood and happiness.

Combats depression: Engaging in kind acts can help protect against and cope with symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Increases self-esteem: Being kind to others and practicing self-compassion can improve self-esteem and a sense of well-being.

Physical health benefits

Decreased blood pressure: Research suggests a link between kindness and reduced blood pressure.

Strengthens the body: Kindness can make the body feel both stronger and healthier.

Increases longevity: Studies have linked consistent acts of kindness, such as volunteering, to a longer lifespan.

Community and social benefits

Strengthens relationships: Acts of kindness help build stronger relationships and reduce feelings of loneliness.

Boosts community connection: Kindness is a building block for a strong and stable community.

Improves workplace morale: A culture of kindness can lead to higher job satisfaction and less burnout in the workplace.

Creates a ripple effect: A single act of kindness can have a positive ripple effect, inspiring others and fostering a more compassionate environment.
