This Sangha, community, wishes to provide a space for students on campus to come and meditate weekly. These meditations will not, nor should they, attempt to convert anyone towards Buddhism or try to dissuade others from believing in what they already do.These meditations sessions are meant to provide us students with a time of not just relaxation from the busy and hectic schedule that is the quarter system, but to nurture and encourage mindfulness in our every day lives. Taken from the Plum village website, this further elaborates on our goals for holding these meditations, " We are of all nationalities and of all faiths – or none. We don’t ‘believe’ blindly in the Buddha’s teachings on mindfulness; we each experience that they do just work. When we practice mindful walking, breathing, smiling, sitting, eating, talking, listening and hanging-out together, we experience happiness and peace – a kind of oasis of relief from the junk of life. At last we have a chance to live more deeply, happily and meaningfully. We are a Zen practice, but it is not the Zen that most associate with that word. To gain a better understanding of our practice, you may wish to examine the website www.plumvillage.org (the main website for our tradition).
