We've been busy learning, creating, exercising and playing!

Kathy Davis Vickers and Cate Cardella both came for crafts, Pool-Looza is in full swing and we should have a Tournament Champion this week!
Michelle Buntrock continues chair exercise classes and we are getting stronger! NIU students join us for Word Mining to keep our brains strong as well.
Patrice and friends from The Black Atmosphere Project gave us great info about managing chronic pain and inflammation with the use of spices and foods. She made pumpkin and sunflower seed tacos that were absolutely scrumptious!

Our community partners and volunteers continue to make life at BCM interesting and fun. If you are interested in presenting or volunteering at Barb City Manor contact Anne at acheladyn@barbcitymanor.org.

Fun BCM Fact:

Our building is a city owned building. We are very grateful that we are able to use this historic building to give our seniors a perfect place to call home.

If that isn't generous enough, we are also able to apply for grant funding through the City of DeKalb as mentioned below to help subsidize our Resident Assistance Fund.

Teamwork Makes The Dream-Work around here and we are grateful for all of the support we receive from City of DeKalb, Illinois.

The City of DeKalb is directing $47,500 in federal funds to local service agencies, adding to the record $300,000 in local funds awarded to nonprofits earlier this year.

The City Council, on Feb. 23, awarded remaining federal COVID funds to eight nonprofits to provide rental assistance, utility assistance and food security.

The agencies receiving funding are Barb City Manor, Barb Food Mart, DeKalb Area Alano Club, Elder Care Services, Family Service Agency, Hope Haven, Rooted for Good and Voluntary Action Center. The allocation comes at a critical time as agencies struggle with reductions in state and federal support.

This latest funding is on top of $300,000 in Human Services Funding awarded by the Council last month, the most ever budgeted for the program. The Human Services Funding comes from local revenue sources and is supporting 28 programs this year.

The last of the COVID funds, $16,240, will support the City’s Owner-Occupied Home Repairs Program for low to moderate-income homeowners in need of critical repairs.

🌷 Spring has officially arrived at Barb City Manor! 🌼

There are flowers everywhere (none of them need watering 😉), décor around every corner, and enough spring cheer to scare winter away for good. If sunshine had a decorating committee — it would be this crew!

Our halls are blooming, the smiles are brighter, and we may or may not be pretending it’s 75 degrees outside already. ☀️

Stop by and see what’s blooming… allergies not included! 🌸
