Our village continues to show up over and over again. When the pond froze, so did our water source. Doug is saving the day and keeping our stir crazy babies supplied with plenty of fresh water (but they'd rather be outside eating snow).

If you aren't on our list for the girls 11+ Bible study and would like to join us- we're meeting today from 5:30-7:30 at Life Foursquare in the Cafe. There will be a devotional about the real reason for the season, sweet treats, a gift exchange (please bring one to swap, no more than $20 value), and hilarious Christmas themed games. Come hang out!!!!

Part 7/8

2026 projects will include a lean-to ($2200), fencing in a new pasture ($1800), with run in ($2800), round pen ($1500), enclosing the current run-in shelter ($900), and sand for our arena ($3500).

If you’d like to work with us to become a lifetime sponsor for any of these projects, please reach out! Your contribution ensures the best care for our horses- who can then give them best care to their students. If you know someone who may be able to donate materials to one of these projects- that is just as much appreciated!

Part 6/8

As our riding season closes, there is still ample need at Freedom Reins, especially as we enter the winter months. Projects are aplenty to complete by spring. Please consider joining us by donating to enrich the lives of both children and adults, especially those with disabilities. By doing so, you’re showing our families, and your community, that you stand with them and support programs that support them.

Part 5/8

Needless to say, our Ribbon Cutting and “Open Barn” exceeded our wildest expectations and prayers! We guess almost 300 people attended! Throughout the entire event we felt so much love for our program, horses, students, donors, and volunteers. If you attended, or supported from afar- THANK YOU!

With this move, our end of season is now earlier than previous years as we operate with just an outdoor arena for now. BIG plans are on the horizon, but for now, we’re approaching the time where we’ll say see you next spring!

Part 4/8

September came and we finally were operating more consistently. While lessons were well underway, the board of directors was working on something special. October 17th we opened our doors for the first time to the public. We had no idea what to expect. All we knew is that we put the word out, asked for everyone to share as much as possible, and prayed for everyone that should find us, would find us.

First rain, then heat. Then more heat. We were itching to get all of our students back into the saddle, but the welfare of our horses, most of whom are seniors, is paramount. More often than not, lessons were canceled from June to August.

Still, we carried on. Our beautiful horses got well deserved r&r, and stayed cool near their new pond with a constant breeze. While they don’t know how amazing they have it, we sure are in awe every day at their gorgeous views! We were ready for a reprieve from the heat though!

Part 2/8

What originally was projected to take up to nine months took just four months from start to finish! Through sheer grit, hours upon hours of volunteerism and labor donated by dozens of individuals, Freedom Reins moved in May 31, 2025.
Sugar, Mocha, Sis, Frosty, and Joe all took the move in stride and settled in beautifully. After a period of time off to acclimate, lessons started. Shortly after, lessons paused.

Part 1/8

As many of you may have seen by now, our annual newsletter went out last week telling you all about the move and our new barn. We thought we'd share it here as well in case you aren't on our mailing list!

A year ago, life as we knew it changed greatly. Freedom Reins was offered a new home at Life Foursquare Church, just as we were nominated to be the charity of the year for DECU.
The year was not without hardships, however. What started as a building tucked into the corner of a property blossomed into endless possibilities over the next six months. The building was four walls, a concrete floor and a roof. We now have six permanent stalls with mats, a temporary stall, two pastures, a 16x24 run-in shelter, a dry lot, an 80x160 outdoor arena that doubles as a dry lot when needed and a seeded pasture that we’ll be fencing in next year.

Freedom Reins is in the Decatur Christmas Parade this Saturday, the 6th at 4. We're excited to see our friends and family along the streets! We need your help! This is a really big event with thousands of people and we can't buy a whole stores worth of candy. If you could drop off candy at the barn or coordinate pick up by Saturday morning, that would be so appreciated! Can't wait to celebrate the season with y'all! 🎄🐎☃️💚
