WinnMed is a charitable nonprofit community hospital and clinic serving northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota since 1914. We are the third largest Critical Access Hospital in Iowa, and are owned by the citizens of Winneshiek County. With an active medical staff of over 35 WinnMed, Mayo Clinic Health System and Emplify Health by Gundersen physicians, and clinics in Decorah, Ossian and Mabel, Minnesota, WinnMed is the largest and most specialized hospital in the region. Our hospital services include multi-specialty surgical services; MRI, CT Scan, x-ray and digital mammography led by an on-site radiologist; rehabilitation and sports medicine clinics in Decorah, Calmar, Cresco and Spring Grove, MN, with outreach to area schools and nursing homes; diabetic education; home medical equipment; home health and hospice; a hospitalist program for 24-hour inpatient care; a swing-bed program for skilled nursing care for rehabilitation and recovery; and obstetrics services. WinnMed also provides urgent care, a 24/7 emergency room and ambulance service staffed physicians, specialized nursing staff and paramedics. On-stage areas are the spaces you’ll experience as a patient, like waiting rooms, exam rooms, and designated corridors just for you. Off-stage areas are staff-only zones where our care teams collaborate, prepare, and work behind the scenes.

• More Privacy & Comfort: You’ll enter exam rooms through dedicated patient corridors, away from staff workspaces and equipment.

🌟 Welcome back to Clinic Corner, a series to help you become familiar with WinnMed’s newly expanded clinic space. These informational segments will cover key updates aimed at ensuring everyone feels confident navigating the new space during this exciting transition. 🌟

Topic Two: Navigating the New Clinic

The newly expanded space is called the North (upper level or lower level) Clinic, and the current clinic space is called the South Clinic (both levels). There is one central check-in desk and waiting area for each level. Our central hallway on both levels, called “Main Street”, allows you to see the full length of the building. As a patient, you will register at Main Registration then be directed to the check-in desk on either upper or lower level. Next, you will enter your exam room via a designated corridor (identified by a letter), accompanied by a staff member. After your appointment, you will exit through the same door and return along the corridor to check out at the check-out desk. As you walk through the corridor, you may notice updated room signs in the new space. This improved system is designed to help our staff quickly locate rooms and respond to your needs.

Topic One: Welcome to the New Clinic Experience!

Construction began in February 2024 and we’ve added:
• 24,000 square feet across two levels
• 41 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, 13 physician offices, 3 shared provider offices, and 5 staff work areas
• A Clinic Lab Draw area for convenient in-visit labs

Opening Dates:
Lower level (Specialty Practice) – Opened TODAY! 🎉
Upper Level (Primary Care & Occupational Health) – Opens Monday, October 27

Additional Information:
• Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, and Podiatry will continue in their current location near Main Registration
• Behavioral Health services will continue in their dedicated space on the east side of the lower level
