Today is National Mortician Recognition Day.

Many people never see the long hours, the late-night calls, or the quiet moments spent making sure every detail is just right for a family’s final goodbye. But for those of us in this profession, it’s never just a job—it’s a commitment to serve our community with compassion, dignity, and respect.

We’re honored to do what we do at Dalton Funeral Home, and we’re grateful for all the funeral professionals who dedicate their lives to caring for families.

Thank you for trusting us during life’s most difficult moments.

I want to thank everyone for their patience and kindness during our annual flower clean‑up at Haven of Rest Memorial Park and Gordon Memorial Gardens.

We were able to complete the clean‑up at Haven of Rest, but due to the weather on 2/26/26, we were unfortunately not able to finish at Gordon. We will return to Gordon on a later date to complete the clean‑up as soon as conditions allow.

To all families, please be assured that only old, faded, or aged‑looking flowers and all Christmas decorations will be removed from Gordon. No fresh or well‑maintained items will be disturbed.
Thank you again for your kindness, understanding, and support in helping us keep our cemeteries clean and beautiful for every family who visits.

You may return any and all small tokens of love and flowers. 💛

Remember when I mailed out all those letter? 🤣Well, about half of them received a letter that said "About your mothers' account." OOPS!! I want to apologize that a lot of you guys received a letter with the wrong name on the inside. While, I appreciate you still calling and reaching out to update your files, I've enjoyed the laugh we've all had together on the phone!

As always, if you’re coming to work with Mom… you’re clocking in. There is no “field trip” energy over here. 🤣 But in all seriousness, we had fun together today and that’s what is important.

Now granted, the poor child isn’t running to the mailbox because of y’all this time… he’s running because of ME. Apparently I personally mailed out half the county in one day. 📬

At this point he’s basically my unpaid postal assistant, getting his steps in while I sit inside printing labels and taking care of my families in need.

Candy here proudly taking care of you at Haven of Rest & Gordon Memorial: where we handle eternal rest… and cardio training for my children. 😌

🌼 Annual Flower Removal Notice – Haven of Rest & Gordon Memorial Cemeteries 🌼

On February 26th and 27th, our grounds team will begin our annual flower removal at both Haven of Rest and Gordon Memorial Cemeteries.

During this time, we kindly ask families to retrieve any sentimental or memorable items they wish to keep.
As part of our seasonal cleanup, all flowers, items left on stones that are not cemetery‑approved, and ALL temporary or unapproved plaques will be removed.

Disclosure:
• Temporary markers set by the funeral home will be removed.
• Plaques purchased through websites such as Amazon or other online retailers will be removed.
• All markers must be purchased and installed by a licensed monument supplier in accordance with cemetery regulations.

This cleanup helps us maintain the beauty, safety, and dignity of our cemetery grounds. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

If you have any questions, please contact our office 706-625-9515

⭐️⭐️ATTENTION READ UPDATE BELOW⭐️⭐️

ATTENTION PLEASE READ!

These are the plaques ( see image 2) that I am referring to for clarification. I apologize for any misunderstanding. My goal is to never throw someone’s loved one’s memorabilia away.

But plaques like these (see image 2) are not cemetery approved and will be removed. Whether if it’s on a stand or in the ground.

I ask all families to just please remove tokens of love and flowers for a temporary removal until our clean up is complete. After it has been completed, all small tokens of love can be placed back on headstones off the ground and out of the mowers way.

We ask if you do leave tokens of love to make sure it fits and sits solely on the base or stone. As mowers and w**d eaters will damage any planters or items placed and left on the ground.

See image 3 as an example as to what is APPROVED. Tokens of love should be placed ONLY on the base or headstone.

Tokens of love should never be placed on the ground due to mowing and w**ding. Leaving tokens of love on ground may get damaged and discarded.

During sensitive times like these, frustration and anger can take over. I never take offense to it because I understand just how delicate it is to lose a loved one. Grief shows up in many ways.

I hate being the person who sometimes has to tell a family no. It is never because we do not want to help or because we do not care. Quite the opposite. I currently serve over six funeral homes across the two cemeteries I manage. That does not even include the five additional cemeteries our small yet mighty company owns, runs, and manages.

Over the years, we have been yelled at, cursed at, spit on, yes seriously, and flipped off. While that is never easy, I truly understand where it comes from. People are hurting.

I want to take a moment to educate and bring clarity. When someone is laid to rest in a perpetual care cemetery, it means the cemetery, your burial space, and your headstone (if purchased through us), are guaranteed to be cared for for the rest of eternity.

While funeral homes may hire private grounds crews to open and close graves, those private parties often do not meet the insurance requirements mandated by the state. Because of that, we sometimes have no choice but to say no, even when our hearts want to say yes.

Grace, patience, and understanding go a long way during these moments. We are here to serve families with dignity, care, and respect, even when the answers are hard.

This holiday season, I witnessed firsthand the heartache and sorrow many families endured. Some were able to walk out with nothing more than signatures, while others were left devastated, struggling to come up with the finances. No one should have to carry the added burden of figuring out how to lay their loved one to rest during such a painful time.

As parents, we never want to leave our children wondering what to do. That’s why it’s so important to take care of your cemetery and funeral pre-need arrangements. By planning your cemetery needs ahead, you can lock in today’s prices with interest-free monthly payments and give your family the gift of peace of mind, so they can focus on celebrating your life, not worrying about the details.

Today was a beautiful day to give back. 💙

Chaz and Walt spent the afternoon ringing the bell for the The Salvation Army USA, proudly representing Dalton Funeral Home with smiles, warm hearts, and a little Christmas cheer. 🎄🔔

Moments like this remind us what the season is truly about: kindness, community, and helping others in their time of need. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve both inside the funeral home and out in our community with Kiwanis of Dalton.

If you’re out and about, drop a little love in the kettle.

It truly makes a difference. 💙

Even though I haven’t been at my new job for long, I want my families to always know how much I appreciate them and that I’m thinking about them long after the services are over. I never want anyone to feel like they’re “just a number” or that my care ends once the paperwork is done.

When we were in Iowa, I handmade special cards for each family as a small reminder that their loved one mattered, and that their grief was seen. I’m grateful to continue that same tradition here in Georgia.

So this Thanksgiving, I want my families to remember that gratitude and grief can share the same heart, and it’s an honor to walk alongside each family through both. 💛🌿🕊️
