January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and experts at Intermountain Health want patients to know that cervical cancer is almost entirely preventable with regular screening.

“This is a game-changer for people who feel uncomfortable with a pelvic exam or have trouble getting to a clinic,” said Katie Rustici, MD, regional service line medical director for Women’s Health with Intermountain Health.

With new options like self-collected HPV testing coming in early 2026, prevention is becoming more accessible — while routine gynecologic care remains an important part of protecting your long-term health.

If you’re due for a screening or have questions about which option is right for you, talk with your provider. A simple test today can help protect your health for years to come.

For one of Saint Joe’s caregivers, Rachel Pearson, blood transfusions became vital to her recovery after being diagnosed with leukemia. She depended on regular donations, receiving blood up to three times a week for six months.

Rachel’s husband witnessed firsthand the role blood transfusions played in her treatment and recovery. Although he had never donated before, recognizing his O-negative type could help many, he began giving blood through Vitalant. Even after her treatment ended, her husband continues to donate. All our caregivers at Saint Joe’s are deeply grateful to blood donors for their impactful contributions for Rachel and our patients who need life-saving blood transfusions.

On this MLK Day, we reflect on the power of courage, service, and standing up for what is right.

In 1965, Sister Eileen Sheehy—one of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth who helped establish our hospitals—lived these values by marching in Selma, Alabama, in support of Black voting rights. She stood in peaceful solidarity to help protect protesters and advocate for change.

Today, we honor Sister Eileen and the countless individuals who have worked toward equality. Their legacy reminds us that justice requires action and that each of us has a role to play in creating a more inclusive world.

Shorter days, colder weather, and busy schedules can take a toll on mental health. For some, it’s more than the “winter blues.” Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that can affect mood, energy, sleep, and daily life.

Signs can look different for everyone—feeling low most of the day, losing interest in things you enjoy, changes in sleep or appetite, or struggling to get through everyday tasks. And these feelings can affect not just you, but the people around you.

The good news: SAD is treatable. Support may include light therapy, counseling, healthy routines, and, when needed, medication. Small steps—like getting outside during daylight, prioritizing sleep, and setting realistic expectations—can also help.

💙 If your mood is interfering with daily life, don’t brush it off. Support is available, and asking for help is a sign of strength.
