Grounding is about gently coming back to the present when your mind feels scattered, worried, or far away. It’s not about pushing feelings away, but about reminding yourself that you can pause, breathe, and reconnect to what’s steady right now.

Here are 5 grounding practices you can return to when life feels overwhelming. Each one is simple, but together they can help you feel more rooted, safe, and supported. 🌱

✨ Save this post so you’ll have these reminders nearby whenever you need them.

When the weight of the world feels especially heavy, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed. In those moments, gentle care for yourself matters. Here are a few ways to tend to your well-being when things feel like too much:

🌿 Pause for your body: Even small acts like stretching, drinking water, or taking a short walk can remind your body it is safe and cared for.

🌿 Limit the noise: Give yourself permission to step back from constant news or social media updates. Creating space can help your mind breathe.

🌿 Anchor in the present: Notice one thing you can see, hear, touch, and smell right now. Simple grounding practices bring you back to this moment.

🌿 Lean on connection: Reaching out to someone you trust can soften the heaviness. Even a brief check-in can remind you that you’re not alone.

🌿 Offer kindness inward: When your inner critic gets loud, try to meet yourself with compassion. You’re doing the best you can.

✨ Caring for yourself doesn’t mean ignoring what’s happening—it means giving yourself the strength to face it with steadiness. One breath, one choice, one moment at a time.

✨ Need a quick reset? Try straw breathing! ✨

In this reel, one of our founding partners, Mary Heekin, LCSW walks you through a simple yet powerful calming technique. 🥤💨 By slowing your exhale (like you’re breathing through a straw), you can signal safety to your nervous system, reduce stress, and find a moment of calm—anytime, anywhere.

🌿 Why it works:
➡️ Lengthening your breath lowers stress hormones
➡️ Helps regulate your nervous system
➡️ Brings you back to the present moment

Give it a try, save this reel for later, and share it with a friend who could use a breather today. 💛

✨ Monday Motivation ✨

As summer winds down and the school year begins, it’s okay to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. Remember: every new week is a fresh start, and you don’t have to have it all figured out at once.

Take a deep breath, set one small intention for yourself today, and give yourself grace as you move into this new season. You’re doing better than you think. 💛

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this week?

Your mental health is part of the syllabus, too.  📝💛

New notebooks, coffee runs, maybe a little homesickness — it’s a lot, all at once.

Some gentle reminders for your mental health this semester:
✨ Set realistic goals. One thing at a time really is enough.
✨ Keep a routine you actually like. Sleep, meals, and small breaks matter more than you think.
✨ Reach out to supports. Friends, professors, campus counseling — you don’t have to do it alone.

Your mental health is part of your education, too.

Here’s to slow mornings, steady days, and finding your own rhythm this semester. 💛

Save this post for a day you need a little grounding.

Back-to-school season is more than new pencils and fresh notebooks—it’s also a big emotional shift for kids and teens.
Transitions can bring excitement and stress, so it’s important to check in with the young people in your life.

✨ Ways to support mental health this season:

Keep routines predictable where possible.

Encourage open, non-judgmental conversations about feelings.

Build in downtime to rest and recharge.

Celebrate small wins—both academic and emotional.

Let’s make this school year one where mental health matters as much as grades. 💛

Whether you're stepping onto campus for the first time or heading back for another semester, college life can stir up a lot of nerves—especially if you're living with social anxiety.

The constant social interactions, new environments, unspoken pressures, and performance expectations can feel exhausting or even paralyzing. If this sounds familiar, take a breath—you are not alone, and there is a path forward.

✨ Tips from a CBT therapist to help ease social anxiety in college:
✔️ Start small: Practice brief interactions (e.g., saying hi to your RA or classmate).
✔️ Create a “safe space” routine: Familiar spots, calming playlists, or grounding techniques can help you reset.
✔️ Challenge self-critical thoughts: Ask yourself—Is this fear a fact, or a feeling?
✔️ Seek out structured social activities that feel manageable (study groups, interest-based clubs).
✔️ Remind yourself: It’s okay to take breaks. It’s okay to go at your own pace.

🧠 At CBT Denver, we understand how social anxiety can impact your college experience—and we’re here to help. Our evidence-based therapy gives you tools to build confidence, reduce anxiety, and feel more in control of your social world.

📍 Therapy that meets you where you are—offered in-person and virtually.

What is parent coaching — and how can it help?

Parenting can be full of love, chaos, doubt, and overwhelm… all at once. When challenges start to feel bigger than the tools you have, it’s easy to feel alone or unsure of where to turn. That’s where parent coaching comes in.

Parent coaching is a strengths-based, collaborative process designed to support caregivers as they navigate tough moments, strengthen their connection with their children, and gain the skills and insight needed to feel more grounded in their role.

It can be especially helpful for:
✔️ Managing behavioral challenges
✔️ Strengthening communication
✔️ Supporting transitions (divorce, school, moves, etc.)
✔️ Building confidence and clarity in your parenting approach

This isn’t about “fixing” your child — it’s about walking alongside you, offering perspective, evidence-based strategies, and a compassionate space to sort through what’s hard.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
We’re here to help you move from surviving to connecting — one step at a time.

Anxiety isn’t always the enemy.
Sometimes it’s a signal—pointing us toward what matters most.

In therapy, we don’t just try to silence anxiety. We get curious about it. We learn to listen, gently and without judgment, so we can understand what it's trying to protect.

When we shift our relationship with anxiety, it becomes less about fear and more about guidance.
