When you combine pom-poms, gold gems, rainbow cups, and tweezers, you get a fun game and sensory experience! We created an on-theme sensory bin this month to help our kiddos find the pot of gold at the end of their own rainbows!

Sunny’s favorite part of the job? Making new friends in new places

Every new environment is an adventure, and Sunny is always ready to bring comfort, smiles, and a little extra joy along the way. Whether it’s a new clinic, a new space, or a new face, she loves being part of each child’s journey!

Sometimes, a wagging tail is all it takes to help a child feel safe, brave, and ready to try something new

This Colorado sunshine has been so delightful - Sunflower loves cuddles on a sunny day! These snuggles help our kiddos regulate - the pressure from even just one of Sunny's paws provides pressure input that helps the nervous system take pause. On top of that, a sweet moment of connection with Sunny helps our kiddos to feel seen and understood without the need for words.

When our client's parent had surgery, she had to go without her sweet service dogs for a few days. In that time, she got a stuffed dog that looks just like her own service dog! That helped us get our creative juices flowing and gave us the idea to create her stuffed puppy its very own service dog vest to match her real service dog! So here we are creating her very own "Service Stuffy"

Treasure hunting our way through the week!

We love this fun sensory bin where our kiddos get to dig for treasure in the sand! This promotes great motor engagement in the hands while exposing little hands to varying textures.

Lucky little hands at work

Here’s how to make your own rainbow bracelet:

☘️ Grab a pipe cleaner and bend one end to keep your cereal from sliding off
☘️ Set out Froot Loops (or switch to Cheerios for a smaller challenge!)
☘️ Invite your child to string each piece onto the pipe cleaner
☘️ When finished, twist the ends together to make a bracelet

That’s it—simple, fun, and packed with skill-building!

This activity supports fine motor strength, hand-eye coordination, and bilateral coordination… all while chasing that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow 🌈

Building skills one block at a time -
Using 3D blocks to recreate shapes from visual cards is a fun and engaging way to challenge growing minds! Kiddos are working on visual perception, spatial awareness, and problem-solving as they figure out how to turn a flat image into a 3D design.
This activity also supports fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and persistence, especially when a design doesn’t go quite as planned the first time.

Play like this helps children strengthen the skills they need for everything from handwriting and math concepts to everyday problem-solving

Big feelings are part of being human

The Zones of Regulation help children understand and label how they’re feeling, while learning safe and effective ways to manage those emotions. From calm and focused to wiggly, frustrated, or overwhelmed, every zone is okay. It’s what we do with those feelings that matters.
By building awareness and practicing strategies, we empower kids to move through their day with confidence, flexibility, and self-control.

Sunny wants to know… what’s your child’s favorite book?

Our favorite facility dog loves cozy story time with her friends—turning pages, looking at pictures, and listening closely to every word. But did you know that reading together builds so much more than just a love of books?
In OT, story time supports important skills like attention, sequencing, language development, and fine motor coordination (hello, page turning!). It’s also a wonderful way to strengthen connection, imagination, and confidence.
So grab a favorite book, snuggle up, and let the learning (and cuddles) begin!

Drop your child’s favorite book below—we know Sunny is always looking for her next great read

Chasing rainbows and building skills

Stringing Froot Loops onto a pipe cleaner isn’t just a lucky little craft, it’s powerful fine motor work in disguise! Kiddos are strengthening hand muscles, working on coordination, and practicing precision with every loop.

Want to up the challenge? Swap in Cheerios for smaller pieces that require even more control (and a little extra patience 😉).

Because sometimes, the real gold at the end of the rainbow is confidence, independence, and skills that grow with every try.

Sometimes, turning down the lights turns up the engagement.

This glowing sensory setup invites children to explore, scoop, and transfer, building fine motor strength, coordination, and motor planning one handful at a time. Moving beans from dark to light adds a visual target that keeps little hands focused and curious.
The added glow also creates a calming, low-stimulation environment while still supporting sensory exploration and regulation. This makes it easier for children to stay engaged AND successful!
In OT, we love using simple shifts (like lighting!) to spark motivation, encourage participation, and make skill-building feel like play.

Because when play is exciting, learning shines
