I’m so proud of this new fountain collection! Most of these were made with the idea in mind that they would be in worship and sacred spaces. The tower style, which includes towers that are chalice-shaped, is ideal for that environment. Water cascading over the top ledge and down the sides provides compelling visuals up close and from farther away, catching and reflecting lights from within the space. They also have the most subtle sound of any of my fountain designs, so whomever is speaking doesn’t have to compete with aggressive ti**le tankles to be heard. What an incredible summer it has been! In July I gathered in Memphis with others from my denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada. I spent the months prior creating a beautiful (and large!) collection of liturgical pottery for that event. I saw many of you there and it was an inspiring week! And I ALMOST SOLD OUT of pottery. Thank you to everyone who purchased my work! I hope it brings delight to your homes and sacred spaces and serves you, and those you serve, well for many years to come!

If you had your eye on pieces that sold out, you’re in luck! I have just restocked at www.deckersmithpottery.com sold out (and new) liturgical designs including:

“A Woman’s Place is in the Pulpit” Mugs, Candles and Magnets
CC(DoC) Mugs and Candles
Rainbow Communion Pieces (which are customizable)
Rainbow Lanterns
Tabletop Labyrinths
Candlesticks
And More!

Yesterday I did the liner glazing and today all these lovelies (and more) are getting my rainbow glaze treatment. 🌈DOC friends - if you placed and order at General Assembly (or since) your pieces are being glazed and fired this week! If you missed out - don’t worry! I’m making a big batch of everything that sold out at GA. Stay tuned!

I did a thing! I was a guest on The Potters Cast Podcast! I had a lovely chat with host, Paul Blaise,
about all things clay, process, teaching clay to kids, and Decker-Smith Pottery! We took a little walk down memory lane to find out what brought to the magical medium of clay. Shouts out to my first beloved potter instructor, Jane Renfroe at Mars Hill University and to Don Davis from East Tennessee State University who saw something in this untrained potter and let me study clay there.

Now ideally this idea would have come to me BEFORE Generally Assembly, but better late than never. Who remembers Big Alex???

The fountain I have been working on was commissioned for a special purpose. It was part of a workshop about resilience at the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) this weekend. During the workshop, Aneesah from Bethany Fellows led participants in a spiritual practice with the fountain at its center. Now that GA is finished the fountain is bound for Christmount - a DOC Camp in western North Carolina - which was greatly affected by Hurricane Helene and is a beautiful example of resilience. It’s also where my MIL lives, so when we take our kiddos to Gram’s house, this amazing place is where we go. This project has so many layers of special and I was so honored to be asked to make it.
