I wanted to send a PSA regarding non- pet-friendly salt for de-icing walkways and stairs. They make pet friendly for a reason, and I learned the hard way.
My little Ursa's eyes swelled completely shut overnight in early January. I was initially dumbfounded, then a friend of mine asked if I had put salt out and she said it can cause corneal abrasion. I took Ursa to the vet and she had an ulcer in each eye, with no history of entropion at 18 months old. They made her some eye drops out of her own blood serum and also prescribed antibiotic drops with oral antibiotics. Within 4 days her eyes were open again, but she couldn't see for 2 weeks. She was so happy when her eyes opened back up, I would have been too! Photos are before healing and after.

Update on my crew- they're all doing well. Sid (big white one) has his full muzzle back and is healthier than ever at 8 years old. He was dealing with abdominal cellulitis in the last photo and on Prednisone, but he healed and is doing good.

Ursa is now 8 months old. She's my little head-turner 💕

My daughters and I got to play with and photograph these 4 handsome friendly boys over the weekend, 11 weeks old in IL. Idk how these cuties are still iso their forever couches? They're all beautiful, but I'm absolutely in love with the fawn with mask #2, he's such a chunky little teddy bear! The Red Fawn is so unique looking. Who's your favorite?

Bitsy's May litter have been in their new homes for a month now. Reminder- they should've gotten shots around August 2nd and follow your vet's recommendation after. NO LEPTO shots or 7 way that includes Lepto, Shar-Pei are prone to reactions to it.
Regularly clean your pup's ears and check them for fleas/ticks/mites. Keep pup's nails trimmed so they don't injure you or themselves. Give puppy blue Zymox ear drops for ear infections.
Training:🌼
Reward based training works well with Shar-Pei. Keep a pouch of small bite-sized treats on hand to reward good behavior. Look into Positive rewards and distraction techniques instead of disciplining pup in a negative manner.
Socialization:🐶
Remember to carefully socialize your puppy with other dogs/animals/people. Always use a leash when walking in parks or around town, and I recommend bringing pepper spray in the event an off-leash animal becomes a threat. You can also check out available puppy classes.
Deworming:🪱
Pups need deworming every 2 weeks until the age of 12 weeks, then MONTHLY until the age of 6 months at which they can be transferred to an adult deworming schedule (every 2-3 months).

I'm so happy to share these photos from my extended pei families. All 7 pups from Bitsy's May litter have been living their best lives with their new families! They have been named: Maverick (was red collar), Po (gray collar), Baloo (orange collar), Charlie aka Chuck (was Thor or blue collar), Renly (pink collar), and Mew (green collar). I don't know if Storm (white collar)'s name has changed, but she gets to live with her big sister Sapphire. Thank you all for taking such great care of them!
