Whether you’re just starting to explore a healthier relationship with food and body image, or you’re 10 years in and consider yourself to have a positive relationship with both, bad body image days can still creep up. This does not mean that you’ve failed or that something is wrong with you. The process, is a process…with ups and downs, and can sometimes feel like 5 steps forward and 2 steps back. There is no right or wrong way to be on the journey. Normalize that less than great days will happen, and gear yourself up with tools and practices that support you, wherever you’re at that day. Even on the days where you might not love your body, we still encourage you to show respect for your body. How do you care for yourself on bad body image days?

So honored to have been featured in earlier this year and continue to spread the word about Intuitive Eating.

In our society, finding joy, peace and a sense of neutrality when it comes to food and body image is a form of radical self-love. And we’re here to support you and the Metro Detroit community on this journey.

Check out the article for 5 tips to start embracing intuitive eating. If your interested to learn more, check out our website (link in bio) or schedule a complimentary consultation call.

Our society talks a lot about foods that cause inflammation in the body. But what else causes inflammation in the body? Stress. Inflammation isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it is your body’s natural way of fighting off things like infections. The harm comes when it is constant, or chronic. For example, it’s not realistic for your body to full-speed sprint numerous hours a day. You’d burn out. That’s kinda how your body feels when you’re constantly stressed about food choices that are made from external, or internalized, diet culture food rules and you’re not enjoying what you eat. These thought processes are nuanced, we get it. That’s why we’re here to help. Schedule your free discovery call today and let’s chat.

Salads are another food that diet culture has gone and ruined for a lot of people. They’re seen as the “boring, healthy option that you’re supposed to choose.”

First and foremost, as intuitive eaters - if you’re craving a sandwich or a pizza that day, go for it! However also as intuitive eaters, it can be just as likely an option that we genuinely crave a salad!

Salads don’t need to be the “should” option. They can be the “want, desire, genuinely enjoy” option too! The same way you’d choose or make any food option with your favorite ingredients and toppings, the same can be done for salads.

Now the real question: does fruit belong in salads?

(We vote yes! IF that’s something you enjoy ;) )

Unless we’re intentionally aware of it, or we somehow got lucky and skated by without diet culture getting it’s grimey morality hands on us, we tend to categorize foods as either “good” or “bad”.

But what does that even mean?? Good and bad are so subjective. Ever wonder why one food is “allowed” on one diet but “not allowed” on another. Yeah same… It doesn’t make sense.

Different foods DO have different nutrition (proteins, fats, carbs). And these things affect our bodies in many different ways. Not necessarily good. Not necessarily bad.

The part that “good” vs. “bad” morality doesn’t take into consideration is that YOU ARE A FULL, COMPLEX, HUMAN BEING LIVING AN INTRICATE LIFE OF EXPERIENCES!

As much as we want to put things into neat, organized little boxes, it’s not that simple. Life happens in the gray, in the in-between - normalize neutrality.

Just a friendly reminder from your friendly local registered dietitian to stay vigilante this holiday season.

You are not broken. Our society’s view of health, food and body size is.

You are worthy of joy, peace, confidence, love. All of it. Without having to change a damn thing.

The only thing we’re wishing for you this holiday season is deeper connection to yourSELF.

If you’re ready to ditch diet cycling for good, and finally cultivate a healthy relationship with food and your body, we’re here to help.

Cheers to New Year’s resolutions made from a place of true self-love.

The first principle of Intuitive Eating is “Reject the diet mentality”. Part of this process is becoming aware of the diet culture Kool-aid that we’ve been sipping. This can often come with a rollercoaster of emotions such as anger, sadness, frustration, disbelief and regret - for all of the time, money, energy and more spent. It can feel disheartening and confusing sometimes. But remember that you’re not alone. Diet culture duped us all, but there is a whole community of intuitively led eaters and movers out there cheering each other on. Looking for some support?
