Detroit Yoga Lab

Detroit Yoga Lab Detroit Yoga Lab was the first yoga studio to open in Detroit in 2012. We hope you'll come see for yourself. The room pulses and breathes.

Detroit Yoga Lab is a modern, minimalist sanctuary offering intentional yoga rooted in breath, meditation, and whole-body awareness—enhanced by the healing power of infrared heat. Since opening, we’ve been told in many different ways that Detroit Yoga Lab is the most welcoming, best designed and supercharged yoga studio in Detroit, and that there’s just no other place like it. Our students have also claimed that their experiences in being part of this amazing community have changed their lives, bodies and hearts for the better. We are so humbled by the inclusiveness, connectivity and determination that has sprouted in this space over the past three years and hope you will come join us. We offer more than 30 classes a week, from heated vinyasa to candle light yin, and everything in between. The air is sort of electric. And most importantly, there is a real feeling of community that pervades this studio and makes students want to return, because we see the beauty in everyone! Our teachers are friendly, accessible for questions and are consistently participating in ongoing education and training so they can in turn provide the most knowledgeable classes about how to move safe, build strength, increase flexibility and release stress through yoga. To us, yoga is a practice that helps us all be our best, not a practice to make us all look the same, so we hope you’ll come share you so we can help you be YOUR BEST!

✨Living Your Yoga: Svadhyaya ✨

This week, we’re exploring Svadhyaya — Self-Study. The fourth principle of the Niyamas.

It’s the practice of turning inward with curiosity + compassion, noticing your thoughts, patterns, and stories without judgment. Each moment of awareness is an opportunity to uncover the layers of who you are beneath conditioning and expectation. Self-study invites you to meet yourself fully, with patience + kindness.

Where can you pause today to turn inward and simply observe?

✨Living Your Yoga: Tapas✨

This week we’re exploring the third Niyama: Tapas — Self Discipline. Tapas is about stoking the inner fire… the steady heat of effort and transformation. It’s the spark that keeps us moving toward growth, even when the path feels uncomfortable. Tapas reminds us that discipline isn’t punishment; it’s a devotion to becoming the truest version of yourself.

Where could you bring a little more fire and focus into your day?

This isn’t about doing more. It’s about coming home to yourself.

Through gentle, breath-led movement, you’ll listen, soften, and rebuild trust with your body at your own pace. Each shape, shake, and pause is an act of care. A reminder that healing happens slowly, through choice and presence.

Join us every sunday at 4:30pm for Somatic Flow.
Leave steady. Leave nourished. Leave you. 🤍

As winter settles in, we know how good it feels to move in warmth. But at Detroit Yoga Lab, our infrared heat isn’t about intensity. It’s about healing.

Unlike forced hot air, infrared heat warms you from the inside out, penetrating deep into muscles and joints to support recovery and mobility. It’s a gentle, radiant warmth that soothes the nervous system and promotes circulation—without drying the air or creating that “stuffy hot yoga” feeling.

✨ Only two studios in Detroit offer infrared heat.
And all of our “hot” classes are powered by it—so every warm practice comes with the full healing benefits.

This winter, step into the kind of warmth your body (and mind) will thank you for. Sign up today and feel the freedom of moving in true, supportive heat.

✨ Living your yoga: Santosha ✨

This week, we explore the second Niyama: Santosha — Contentment. In a world that constantly tells us to chase the next thing, Santosha invites us to pause and find peace in what already is. It’s not about settling — it’s about softening. About meeting each moment, each breath, and each version of yourself with acceptance and gratitude.

True contentment isn’t something we find “out there.” It’s something we remember in here. 💛

How can you practice Santosha today?

As the year folds into darkness, you’re invited to pause—
to step out of the noise and back into yourself.
The Sound Medicine Collective, renowned for their profoundly immersive sound healing journeys, joins us at Detroit Yoga Lab for an evening of breath, movement, and sacred sound that will guide you through the stillness of the longest night of the year.

You’ll begin with heart-opening cacao and grounding breathwork to warm the body and quiet the mind. From there, you’ll be carried by the Collective’s extraordinary artistry—gong, crystal and alchemy bowls, mantra, and chimes weaving an atmosphere that reaches deep into the nervous system, inviting you to soften, release, and remember your own rhythm.

Rooted in DYL’s nervous-system-first philosophy, this solstice journey is your descent and your return: a reminder that darkness isn’t something to fear—it’s where your light begins again.

🗓️ Saturday December 20th, 5:00-7:00p
