I’m a PCOS Registered Dietitian and Educator with PCOS & insulin resistance. I have been specializing in PCOS nutrition & wellness education for over 10 years. Having PCOS myself, I understand the challenges that come along with it. Difficulty losing weight, carb cravings, hunger, stress, fatigue, insomnia, thinning hair, facial hair, & not to mention, the overall emotional toll it takes on yourself & those closest to you… PCOS is tough! Finding movement you enjoy is huge for PCOS and overall health! But, I always struggled with exercise… until I changed my mindset about it.

💙Instead of it being “exercise” that I ✨should✨ do, I’m trying things that I WANT to do because I’ll actually ✨enjoy✨ it!

I’ve always enjoyed dancing and wanted to try belly dancing. Yet, I almost talked myself out of it due to self-doubt.

🙌But, I remembered how much I’ve always WANTED to do it… so I did it and LOVED IT!! 💃🏻

Thank you all for helping me build my confidence to get out there and try something new for my health!! 💙

✨PCOS & carb cravings!✨Ever feel like you crave carbs alllllll the time? Good news, there are filling & satisfying ways to help if you have PCOS & insulin resistance!

Is the answer to cut out carbs completely?

🔴For many people, this isn't sustainable long-term.

🔴Plus, people with PCOS are more likely to develop disordered eating behaviors. So, significant restriction of an entire food group (or other strict diet rules) may lead to disordered eating habits (such as bingeing on a bunch of carbs, then restricting, then feeling ashamed, & repeating the cycle).

***On a personal note: This is how I developed an eating disorder when I was very young & it took years to realize what was happening & ultimately recover. So, for many reasons, I don't recommend my clients eliminate carbs completely.

👉Therefore, instead of banishing carbs & punishing ourselves, let's consider pairing carbs with foods that can help fight those cravings, such as:

✅ Fiber
✅ Protein
✅ Healthy fats

***And to be clear, when I say "carbs," I mean those whole, unprocessed carbs packed with nutrients, like whole grains, fruits, potatoes, dark chocolate (YES... chocolate), quinoa, rice, etc.

🔴However, this doesn't mean we can't still enjoy those sweets and salty treats we love from time to time!

🔴This also isn't a free pass to go hog-wild on some cake and ice cream because you had some peanut butter earlier lol. Foods high in sugar can still make any low-grade chronic inflammation in our bodies worse. So, let's still keep those suckers to a minimum & consider having a filling & satisfying protein-packed meal with fiber prior to indulging.

This is why many of us with PCOS avoid going to the doctor:
❎lack of proper PCOS knowledge
❎made to feel like we aren't trying hard enough (or lying about our efforts)
❎talked to as though we are dumb + don't care about our health

👉So, why am I sharing the most UNFLATTERING pic of me? Fogged-up glasses, teary-eyed, + 100% unglamorous???

😡Because this sh*t still happens to me too - someone who has dedicated her life to studying PCOS + helping others overcome their symptoms.

😑This was me when I was told at a doctor's appointment that I "Clearly wasn't doing anything to manage my PCOS"... bc I wasn't taking a certain medication that almost every doctor prescribes for PCOS (hint: rhymes with 'get-for-min').

❌This person had 0 compassion or understanding of what it was like to have PCOS + minimal understanding of how to properly manage it.
❌But, somehow this gave her the right to assume I didn't care about my health + wasn't taking action to help my PCOS.

🔥Did I stand up for myself + give her the PCOS Ted Talk of my life? Absolutely YES!
👋Did I ever see her again? Absolutely NOT!
💧Did I cry + fog up my glasses after she left the room? SURE!

📸But, I took this pic as a reminder that the fight for better PCOS care + research is not over!

💕I am proud to be a PCOS dietitian, coach, advocate, + patient.
💕I will never stop providing my clients the PCOS care WE ALL deserve.
💕I will continue to advocate for patients to stand up for themselves.
💕I will continue to educate my fellow medical professionals on PCOS.

💪And I'm proud to be fighting alongside my fellow PCOS providers, patients, + advocates on March 3rd for PCOS Advocacy Day with ! We all deserve better, so let's keep telling Congress we need better!

❌Screw THAT!!!

Instead, let's incorporate all the foods we love into our nutrition plan in a way we can feel FULL and SATISFIED. Yes, that includes carbs, fats, veggies, fruits, proteins, and even fun foods.

While learning how to have a healthier relationship with them....without the food shame and guilt.

😢Yeah, me too. Ironically, I even had this happen to me with 2 different dietitians.🙄Hence, why I am here!

I'm sorry you've had to deal with this too, but you don't have to put up with this bs. You deserve BETTER!

❌No more bs.
❌No more judgment.
