Well, that was a helluva 24 hr shift! ⏱️

In the first 4 hours of my shift, I had 3 deliveries! One asynclitic babe, with a mama that required midwife continuous presence, Two shoulder dystocias (easily and quickly resolved) two babies needing breathing assistance (for two mins or less) a tight nuchal cord (cut and clamped on the perineum) and a postpartum hemorrhage (managed with 4 meds and uterine massage!)
Whoa! 😳
All managed quickly, efficiently and successfully! 🙌🏾
Charted up a storm, then proceeded to sleep for the next 12 hours. 🛌😴💤

Thank you birth goddess! 🙏🏾🙌🏾✨

One thing I know for sure, is that you never give me more than I can handle!

Big shout out to the NY team. I love yall so much. Top notch teamwork and stellar nursing! Everyone is communicative, efficient and kind!

Last week I attended a birth center-birth after 2.5 yrs of doing hospital only and baby let me tell you! OOH midwives ya’ll ain’t nothing to play with! Nerves of steel.
I’ll be the one to say it. Hospital midwives are spoiled! (JK)😂😂

Imagine it’s 3 in the morning pushing with a prime who went from 1-10 cm, in less than 2 hours, there’s meconium, then a tachypnea baby, retained membranes and a drippy uterus and it’s all on YOU! Shout out to my competent birth assistant. No MD, no neonatologist! You are the nurse, the doctor, the neonatologist and the midwife!
Out-of-hospital midwives you rock!
And guess what everyone was sent home in good condition, baby pink and calm, mommy all patched up, and daddy feel confident and reassured, his family will thrive! I’m so grateful for all my experience, in and out of the hospital!

Day two loading!
Yesterday was the first day of my locums tenes journey.
There is something about coming into an environment where they need providers to function. The appreciation was felt! My agency made everything so smooth. I have been getting the VIP treatment, which makes it so easy to pour myself into the work! The clients are adorable. I’ve already rcvd a compliment face to face. This maybe be exactly what I need to keep my midwifery flame burning. I’m out in New Mexico seeing patients in the office only this week. The office is well run, the MA’s are a big help, and I share an office with a kick-ass WHNP. I love those girlies!
No more full time jobs for me! This midwife has got to be free. Free to grow, free to expand, and free to collect coins around the world. Travel midwife on assignment! To God be the Glory! Thanks to all who supported, this journey, you are appreciated. .melanated.midwife and many more!

Happly Tuesday Birthworker Family!

I hope everyone is well.

Ya’ll this chapter of my life is called “Leveling Up”.

The last 8 months of my life have been an amazing whirlwind of self-discovery. I’ve traveled around the world and partook in some of the most life altering transformational experiences this life has to offer.

I’ve experienced myself in a way, that I’ve never had before. I learned a lot and now I’m ready to get back down to earth and back to work.

The next phase of my midwifery journey is loading….

My hands are now ready to catch a baby!
Any other midwives love getting henna on their hands as a ritual of honor or a pampering experience? Our hands serve us so faithfully in the work we do. There are moments where I’m intensely aware of how my hands are a conduit of my intention.
Give thanks for hands that hold and hands the heal.

Read this book.

I thought I understand what the witch trials were all about but I had no idea how they related to my work as a midwife and those who dared to do this work before me. If you think about it, we are in he midst of a witch trial right now. Healthcare providers are facing legal constraints when trying to provide life-saving care. All the while; the same devils that passed this law will privately seek healthcare for their friends and family if and when they need it.

We’ve been here before people.
