What to ask for: an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) under IDEA.
Quick steps
• Put it in writing (email is fine).
• Use this line: “I disagree with my child’s evaluation and request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) at public expense.”
• You’re allowed one IEE per district evaluation.
• You don’t have to explain why you disagree.
• Save a copy of your request.
When to consider an IEE
• Something was missed 🧩
• Scores don’t match what you see at home/school
• Services or placement don’t fit your child’s needs
• You want more data to advocate confidently
