Doniphan Diabetes Dash4 The Doniphan Diabetes dash is a 5K and 1 mile race to raise awareness and money for the area Type 1 diabetes programs.

It will be held in June around the cozy town of Doniphan. We started this race after our son was diagnosed with diabetes at age 4.

We would like to introduce you to Madi! Madi is from Doniphan and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes recently. Her mom, Steph, is joining the DDD crew also! Here is what Steph said about Madi,

“In June 2025, Madi was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. Just one month later, on July 17, 2025, she was also diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Her symptoms escalated rapidly, resulting in a two-and-a-half-day hospitalization at Children’s Hospital. Despite facing so much in such a short time, Madi continues to show courage beyond her years.”

I would like to introduce you to Piper. She is from Doniphan and has been diagnosed wirh Type 1 Diabetes. Her mom, RanDee, is joining the Doniphan Diabetes Dash Crew!!

Here is what RanDee said about Piper:
“In September 2024, just two weeks after her seventh birthday, I took Piper in to be evaluated for what I hoped was a simple UTI—but deep down, I knew it was something more. Our pediatrician quickly referred us to the local ER, and from there, we were transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha.

Piper spent four days at Children’s as doctors worked to stabilize her blood sugar levels and prevent her from going into DKA. Once she was stable, we were finally able to go home—facing the challenge of quickly adjusting to a completely new way of life, all while preparing to welcome a new baby just days later.”

March 22, 2017 was one of the scariest days for Matt and I. Hudson was 4 at the time and was extremely thirsty and had accidents in bed. I assumed it was a UTI or something unserious like that. He was a champ giving blood so we got ice cream as a reward! 20 minutes later, I get a call from the doctor telling us to go to the ER immediately. Fast forward……his blood sugar was 681! We didn’t know anything about Type 1 Diabetes so we were upset that they diagnosed him before even seeing our kid. Well, we are so glad they were adamant for us to stay at the hospital. Hudson was there for 3 days as they tried to level his numbers as well as educate us on what Hudson will now have to do for the rest of his life. 😢
Going forward 9 years he has had many finger pokes, many shots, lots and lots of sugar and juice, each new model of the Dexcom, and about 5 pumps. Our little boy is now a 13 year old that is taller than me and continues to be a champ! He is very independent with his T1 and is active in all sports!🏈 🏀 🏃‍♂️ ⛳️

Tomorrow is Hudson’s 9th Diaversary. He was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes on March 22, 2017 at age 4. It’s not really a day to celebrate, but we like to kick off the Dash with a discount on his Diaversary to recognize the day someway. So, tomorrow from 7am-7pm there will be a $5 discount on the 1 mile, 5K, and Virtual 5K.
