*Tuscarawas County Health Department Releases 2025 Annual Report*
DOVER—Just in time for National Public Health Week (4/6-4/12/26), the Tuscarawas County Health Department (TCHD) recently released its 2025 Annual Report which highlights the department’s essential public health activities to prevent the spread of disease, promote healthy behaviors, and protect the Tuscarawas County environment. Noteworthy statistics from the report include 180 car or booster seats provided for area families; 1,002 food safety inspections completed; 2,190 medical appointments conducted; 5,617 birth and death certificates issued; 56 community education presentations; 9 tons of scrap tires collected; and $2,927,314 in grant funds received.

In addition to details about each health department service bureau, the annual report lists the top five causes of death and includes numerous pictures and statistics regarding TCHD services and activities. The report also provides a summary of construction and renovation changes that were made to the building and grounds.

“In 2025, the department made significant strides forward despite extraordinary changes such as operating while our building was under construction for most of the year,” explained Katie Seward, MPH, MBA, Tuscarawas County Health Commissioner. “Our staff strengthened environmental health protections and collaborated with schools, healthcare providers, local organizations, and businesses to improve public health and safety for county residents.”

Seward added, “We are thankful to the community for their patience and understanding during our extensive construction project, and we look forward to hosting a community open house from 4 pm to 6 pm on May 19 to showcase our renovated building to everyone.”

Today (4/3/26) we are sharing data for Tuscarawas County respiratory virus hospitalizations from the Ohio Department of Health's (ODH) online respiratory virus dashboard. In the top graphic below, please find the ODH respiratory virus hospitalization report for Tuscarawas County for the week covering 3/22/26-3/28/26. During the reporting period, 0 county residents were hospitalized with RSV, 0 were hospitalized with Flu, and 0 were hospitalized with COVID-19. To see the complete ODH dashboard, visit https://data.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/data/view/ohio-department-of-health-respiratory-dashboard?visualize=true
The Ohio Department of Health monitors virus levels found in wastewater, and we can report these levels for the Dover wastewater treatment plant location as a good indicator of virus activity in our region. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported on 4/2/26 that wastewater levels for COVID-19 were moderate, wastewater levels for RSV were low, and flu was not detected in the wastewater. These ODH wastewater specimens were collected at Dover on 3/29/26. You can view a screenshot of the report in the bottom graphic below this post.
Overall, wastewater (sewage) can be tested to detect traces of infectious diseases circulating in a community, even if people don't have symptoms. You can use these data as an early indicator that levels of infections may be increasing or decreasing in the community.
