Do you and your loved ones need a flu vaccine or COVID-19 vaccine? TCHD is now scheduling vaccine appointments. Walk-Ins are also available on Mondays from 8:30 AM-12 PM and on Thursdays from 3 PM-5:30 PM. Walk-ins may be subject to a longer wait time. To schedule a vaccine appointment, call us at 330-343-5555, ext. 1810.
The CDC recommends that everyone age 6 months and older receive a flu vaccine dose each year, with limited exceptions. For those who are at higher risk of developing serious flu complications, flu vaccination is especially important. Those groups include adults 65 and older, adults with certain chronic health conditions, pregnant women, and children younger than 5 years. Talk with your medical provider to see if a COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for you.

Did you know this month (November) is Lung Cancer Awareness Month? The American Cancer Society (ACS) updated the lung cancer screening guidelines. ACS now recommends yearly CT scans for individuals aged 50 to 80 who currently smoke or have a history of smoking. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women in the U.S. Some of the signs and symptoms include coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath, and wheezing.
Please, talk to your medical provider to see if a lung cancer screening is recommended for you. Be sure to also check with your insurance about test coverage information. Today (10/31/25) we are sharing data for Tuscarawas County respiratory virus hospitalizations from the Ohio Department of Health's (ODH) online respiratory virus dashboard. In the top graphic below, please find the ODH respiratory virus hospitalization report for Tuscarawas County for the week covering 10/19-10/25/25. During the reporting period, 0 county residents were hospitalized with RSV, 0 were hospitalized with Flu, and 1 was hospitalized with COVID-19. To see the complete ODH dashboard, visit https://data.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/data/view/ohio-department-of-health-respiratory-dashboard?visualize=true
Due to the current government shutdown, respiratory illness rates are not available from the CDC today (10/31/25). However, the Ohio Department of Health monitors virus levels found in wastewater, and we can report these levels for the Dover wastewater treatment plant location as a good indicator of virus activity in our region. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported on 10/30/25 that wastewater levels for COVID-19 were moderate and steady. Wastewater levels for both flu and RSV were low, which is an increase from the previous week when flu and RSV viruses were not detected in the wastewater. These ODH wastewater specimens were collected at Dover on 10/26/25. You can view a screenshot of the report in the bottom graphic below this post.
Overall, wastewater (sewage) can be tested to detect traces of infectious diseases circulating in a community, even if people don't have symptoms. You can use these data as an early indicator that levels of infections may be increasing or decreasing in the community.
