Today we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day 💛💙

A day to honor the incredible individuals with Down syndrome who bring so much joy, resilience, humor, and perspective into the world. It’s also a reminder to continue building spaces where all people are valued, included, and supported for who they are.

Big news! 🎉

Joyful Noise is moving into a larger office space! This move will allow us to better serve families in our community and continue growing.

With the new space, we’ll have room to welcome additional therapists and support more children and families in the future.

I’m incredibly grateful for the support and this growth wouldn’t be possible without each of you. 💛

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month 💚

Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common motor disability in childhood that affects movement, muscle tone, and posture.

Speech-language pathologists often support children with CP by helping with:
• speech clarity
• language development
• feeding and swallowing
• augmentative & alternative communication (AAC)

Communication looks different for everyone and every child deserves a way to express their thoughts, needs, and personality.

This month is about awareness, inclusion, and celebrating the incredible children and families navigating life with CP.💚

When a child lines up toys, there’s often so much learning happening.
They’re exploring patterns, building focus, creating order, and engaging in play that feels just right to them.

Moments like these are wonderful opportunities to join in. Notice the colors, count together, or talk about what comes next in the line. Connection and communication grow naturally through the play children love.

Every child has their own way of playing, and each way is worth celebrating. 💛

Floor time > desk time.
Dirty mirrors, sticky fingers, sensory bins, toy explosions, bubble spills, and lots of giggles in between.
This is pediatric speech therapy: messy, playful, and full of small victories. 💬✨

📣 Speech-Language Pathologist Opportunity (PRN → Potential Full-Time)

I’m gauging interest in bringing on an SLP to support my growing caseload. This would start as a PRN contract position, with the potential to transition to full-time as client needs grow.

✨ Clinical Fellows welcome!

📍 Service areas:
• Office location in Galax, VA
• Home visits in Pulaski County & Montgomery County
• Virtual therapy options available for anyone licensed to practice in Virginia

If you’re interested, or just want to learn more, feel free to message me. I’d love to connect!

✨ Simple Tips to Support Speech & Language at Home ✨

You don’t need fancy materials to help build communication skills…small everyday habits can make a big difference!

👀 Sit face-to-face so your child can watch your mouth and expressions.
👉 Gesture while you talk (pointing, showing, modeling mouth movements).
⏳ Pause and wait to give them time to respond. Silence helps processing!
🗣️ Model, don’t pressure. Repeat words clearly instead of asking them to “say it.”
📖 Narrate daily routines like meals, playtime, and errands.
🎉 Celebrate all communication: words, sounds, signs, gestures, AAC…it all counts!

Consistent, low-pressure interaction is key. You’re already your child’s most important communication partner 💛

❄️☃️Snow day fun!☃️❄️
There’s nothing better than fresh snow and big smiles! Snow days are the perfect chance to grow language through play.

Example activities:
1. Talk about what you see and feel: cold snow, tall snowman, fast sled, warm gloves ⛄️🛷🧤
2. Try giving a simple challenge like “Make a snowball.” ❄️
3. Ask “Where should I throw the snowball?” 🤔

This play helps build a child’s ability to:
✅ Follow directions
✅ Understand basic concepts (big/little, tall/short, fast/slow)
✅ Grow vocabulary and use descriptive language
✅ Answer wh- questions and more!!

Learning happens best when it’s fun!
