With the upcoming extreme cold weather rapidly approaching, we wanted to remind you of some safety tips. Dubuque and the surrounding area are under an Extreme Cold Watch from late Thursday night until Saturday morning. This could bring wind chills nearing 40 degrees below zero! Please take care of yourselves, family, friends, and neighbors!

Grief is not a problem to be solved, but a journey to be honored. 🕊️

This Thursday, we are transitioning our Healing Hearts Grief Group into a new, structured educational format designed to give you more than just a place to talk—it’s a place to heal with purpose.

What’s Changing? We are now centering our sessions around the concepts found in the book, "Grief and Loss: Guiding you to process emotions, nurture gratitude and rediscover your inner strength." While open conversation is still a vital part of what we do, this structured approach provides practical, evidence-based strategies to help you navigate the "waves" of loss.

Through this group, we will explore three key pillars:

Processing Emotions: Moving beyond "just getting through the day" to understanding and sitting with the complex feelings of loss.

Nurturing Gratitude: Learning how to honor the past and find small, meaningful moments of gratitude without diminishing your pain.

Rediscovering Strength: Building a toolkit of coping skills that help you move forward while keeping the memory of your loved one close.

Whether your loss is recent or from years ago, if you are looking for a supportive, NAMI-facilitated space to learn how to navigate your healing journey, we welcome you.

🗓️ When: Starts this Thursday, Jan 15th | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM 📍 Where: NAMI Dubuque Program Center

"You don't get over it, you get through it. You don't get over it, because it's not a cold. But it's something that becomes part of you." Let's get through it together.

A simple holiday tip: Lower the volume. Quiet time is essential for managing sensory overload during holiday gatherings. Take ten minutes in a quiet room, or try some simple breathing exercises.

12/11/2025

Breathing exercises are powerful tools that help students calm their body and reset their mind. These strategies teach kids how to slow their breathing, release tension, and feel more in control during stressful moments. With regular practice, these techniques support emotional regulation and create a calmer learning environment.
