As part of our mission to advance age-friendly work in the community, we’re excited to sponsor Be Minnesnowta Nice for another Cold Front to help celebrate all the ways winter can bring us together while keeping accessibility, safety, and well-being for all ages top of mind.

If you’re out and about, swing by the table with all the red hats and scarves (while supplies last) to pick up yours when you take the BMN Pledge to help keep Duluth’s sidewalks clear of snow and ice.

Because small acts like shoveling a sidewalk can play a big role in making Duluth a more age-friendly and accessible place to live and thrive for people of all ages.

Bundle up and join us for the best of winter fun at Cold Front on Saturday, February 7, from 12 pm-7 pm at Bayfront Festival Park!

Plus, you can score a FREE BMN hat or scarf on us (while supplies last) when you take the pledge at our table to Be MinneSNOWta NICE by lending a hand to keep Duluth’s sidewalks clear of snow and ice.

Did you know that nearly half of the most recent acting Emmys went to older actors?

On the Movies for Grownups Awards red carpet, AARP’s CEO, Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, shared how this year’s standout films and TV series—featuring older performers and directors—are challenging ageism, telling meaningful stories that show aging is about living, and ultimately working to transform the aging experience.

For the winners, tune into the Movies for Grownups Awards on Great Performances on Sunday, February 22 at 7 PM (ET) on PBS.

A little thank-you can really go a long way toward strengthening our community!

That’s why we’re grateful for this timely reminder from Jenna Kowaleski and the Duluth News Tribune.

Whether you’re shoveling for a neighbor, going above and beyond to care for someone you love, or quietly showing up to make Duluth a better place to live for all ages, we're so thankful for you.

I see you out there all bundled up and trying not to slip. I know it’s inconvenient. Snow is heavy and it’s always cold outside. ... I see you. And I thank you.

Because meaning, connection, and possibility can grow even deeper as we grow older.

As part of our “People Behind Our Purpose” series, we’re excited to introduce you to Mimi Stender, the founder of Duluth Aging Support (DAS) and a passionate advocate for helping people of all ages, abilities, and incomes thrive as they grow older in our communities.

In addition to leading the Duluth Age-Friendly Initiative in partnership with Ecolibrium3, Mimi also serves on the Governor’s Council for an Age-Friendly Minnesota, co-founded the Arrowhead Changemakers, and continues to reshape how we collectively think and talk about aging.

When asked about her favorite part of growing older, Mimi said, “gaining a deeper appreciation for my family relationships, friendships, experiences of others, faith, learning new things, and living a life with purpose.”

We’re inspired by this year’s winners of the AARP Purpose Prize, including Harold Garman and Spence Limbocker—two extraordinary leaders who are proving that life experience is a powerful force for good.

Rev. Garman and Spence co-founded the Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative (GBCI), a nonprofit that brings older adults and younger people together to build meaningful relationships.

Through mentoring programs, family support, and intergenerational connections, they’re helping neighbors of all ages thrive in their community.

Pairing older adults and young people in the surrounding community yields benefits for both

With winter weather in full swing, we’re excited to continue our work with Be Minnesnowta Nice to help make Duluth a safer, accessible, and better place to live and thrive for people of all ages and abilities.

In addition to rolling out our first Sidewalk Snow Removal Pilot Program in partnership with Snow Scholars - Snow Removal By College Students and supporting partners, we’re also partnering with the Key Clubs at Denfeld High School and Duluth East High School to spread the word and encourage students to lend a helping hand with sidewalk snow removal in our community.

Gratitude has a way of lifting our spirits, positively enhancing our well-being, and deepening the connections we share with others.

As we grow older, practicing an attitude of gratitude helps us embrace every age and stage of life, notice the beauty in everyday moments, and find joy in the simple things that make life meaningful.

Wherever you are today, we hope you take a moment to give thanks and share a little extra gratitude with someone in your community.
