This fall, Age Friendly Minnesota and regional partners are launching a new statewide exchange series to reconnect, collaborate, and learn about the latest initiatives shaping Minnesota’s age-friendly future.

There’s no better time to challenge stereotypes and discrimination based on age than Ageism Awareness Day!

Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age.
By collectively reflecting and changing our perceptions on what it means to grow older, we can all help combat ageism together.

It’s official—the St. Louis County MN Public Health board has declared October 9th as Ageism Awareness Day!

We’re proud to see our county recognize both the challenges older adults face and the incredible work happening to make our communities more age-friendly for every generation.

With 30% percent of our population in St. Louis County over the age of 60, it’s more important than ever to build a county where we can all live, work, and age well.

The St. Louis County board has designated Thursday, October 9th, as "Ageism Awareness Day."

While the name has changed, their mission and phone number (1-800-333-2433) remain the same.

Reframing the narrative around aging begins with using inclusive language and avoiding words that further perpetuate ageism.

By simply dropping the “ly” in “elderly” and opting for more inclusive language, we can create a positive shift in how we perceive older adults and ourselves as we grow older.
