Taking time to recognize the people making a meaningful impact in our community is how we continue to make Duluth a better place for everyone to call home.

That’s why we’re thankful for community members like Jenna Kowaleski and the Duluth News Tribune for taking the time to acknowledge one another for showing up in big and small ways.

Whether you’re shoveling a sidewalk for a neighbor, checking in on someone you care for, quietly simply showing up in ways that help make Duluth a safer, welcoming, and more accessible place for people of all ages to live, work, and thrive—we’re truly thankful for everything you do!

I see you out there all bundled up and trying not to slip. I know it’s inconvenient. Snow is heavy and it’s always cold outside. ... I see you. And I thank you.

As a trusted regional leader supporting older adults, caregivers, and communities across Northeast Minnesota, the Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging plays a critical role in advancing safety, dignity, and well-being for all of us as we age.

This Wednesday, January 21, Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging is also offering a FREE online webinar from 10-11 am that explores the often overlooked reality of sexual violence in later life and highlights trauma-informed, community-based approaches that support prevention, healing, and care.

To learn more and register your spot, check out: https://arrowheadaging.org/event/building-circles-of-care-prevention-support-and-healing-for-sexual-violence-in-later-life/

P.S. If you’re unable to attend live, registering ensures you’ll receive the recording afterward.

This webinar focuses on the critical and underdiscussed intersection of sexual violence and older adults. Attention will be brought to how sexual violence, both early and later in life, can affect older populations and trauma-informed care.

In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., greatness is found in everyday acts of service.

Every single one of us has something to contribute to make Duluth a better place to live, grow older, and thrive.

Whether it’s advocating for accessible spaces, volunteering your time, or simply choosing kindness in your daily interactions, our community is stronger when everyone plays an active role and feels like they belong.

This season, we’re celebrating one of life’s greatest gifts: growing older.

Together, we have the power to reframe how we collectively view, think, and talk about aging right here in our community.

In your own words, tell us why aging is a gift to you.

Our Age-Friendly Outreach Specialist, Cyndy, recently attended AARP's Scam Jam in Duluth—and it was a powerful day of learning, connection, and community impact.

With nearly 70 people at our table alone, the event brought together older adults, caregivers, and community members from across the region, all eager to learn how to stay safe, supported, and informed about scams, fraud, and identity theft.

Events like this remind us how important it is to build a community where all of us can grow older safely, confidently, and with the support we deserve.

Big news for Duluth Age-Friendly!

We’re excited to introduce you to Georgia Lane, the new Director of Aging Initiatives at Ecolibrium3, who will help lead the Duluth Age-Friendly initiative moving forward.

For nearly 10 years, Georgia has supported communities across the Arrowhead Region in adopting age-friendly and dementia-friendly lenses, offering presentations on ageism, social connection, dementia, and the longevity economy.

She truly believes aging is a gift and is passionate about reframing the way we think, talk, and behave about aging through education, stakeholder engagement, and meaningful community change.
