Our Story
In ancient times frankincense and myrrh were the top traded commodities, along with gold, and were often traded weight for weight with gold! Luckily, the price of frankincense does not currently match that of gold, but its properties have not changed.
Our ancient ancestors used frankincense and myrrh for pretty much everything including food. Not that you could sit and eat gobs of it, but as an aromatic spice, and natural preservative, it was quite a staple. As natural preservatives they have no shelf life and will last indefinitely.
The bible mentions frankincense about 50 times and myrrh about 20. They were used for everything from an aphrodisiac and perfume sachet worn by King Solomon, to incense burned by the tons in temples and places of worship around the globe.
In Egypt, burnt frankincense was used to make kohl, an eyeliner that protected the eyes from infection and added beauty. They also used it for fever, and all sorts of infections and ailments. Animals and livestock were kept free of pests, fleas and ticks when exposed to frankincense and myrrh.
For thousands of years, the aromatic gum resins of East African Frankincense and Myrrh were harvested to supply the demands of old civilizations of many faiths and medicinal uses. They were once considered essential to spiritual and physical well being.
They continue to intrigue man's imagination and are probably the most famous aromatics of all time. Their healing qualities were known and appreciated by the people who used them They were thought to be a blessing for those who possessed them.
