🚨 **Community Awareness: Scam Alert** 🚨
We are sharing this public safety message from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and encourage our patients to review and follow their guidance.

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated—including individuals posing as **pharmacies, insurance companies, or healthcare offices**.

Please keep in mind:

* Healthcare providers, pharmacies, and insurance plans will **not request cash, gift cards, or sensitive financial information unexpectedly**
* Be cautious of unsolicited requests to **change your insurance, switch providers, or provide personal or financial information**

📞 If you believe you may have been targeted by a scam, contact the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at **727-582-6200**

For questions related to your care, insurance, or our practice, you may contact our office directly to confirm any communication you receive.

This information is being shared for general awareness and patient safety.

In just the first two months of 2026, Pinellas County residents have lost more than $1.6 million to courier scams. That's 12 cases in 60 days.

Courier scams come in a few forms, but they all have the same goal: your money and your personal information.

Here's what to watch for:

The Missed Delivery Text/Email — You get a message saying you missed a package. There's a small redelivery or customs fee (sometimes just 99 cents). You enter your card info. That's all they need to charge you thousands.

The Doorstep Drop-Off — Someone shows up with a package that looks like a luxury item. They just need you to scan your card to "verify" or "claim" it. Whatever's inside is worthless. Your card isn't.

The Fake Bank Courier — They call claiming your card was used by organized crime and a courier needs to collect it for evidence. They may even ask you to withdraw cash to hand over. These scammers are convincing. Don't fall for it.

How to protect yourself:

- Don't click links offering prizes or packages you didn't order
- Don't pay any fee for a package you weren't expecting — legitimate couriers don't charge redelivery fees
- If they say you must act immediately or keep it secret, it's a scam
- No real investigation from law enforcement, a bank, or any institution will ever ask you to hand over cash, gift cards, or valuables to a courier

If you've already shared personal information, contact your bank, change your passwords, and call us.

Think you've been scammed? Reach our non-emergency line at 727-582-6200.

Our Story

AMA MEDICAL GROUP IS AN ADULT PRIMARY CARE PRACTICE THAT GREW OUT OF THE INTERNAL MEDICINE PRACTICE OF CRUZ FAÑA-SOUCHET, MD. BOARD CERTIFIED IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE. AFTER COMPLETING HER RESIDENCY AND FELLOWSHIP AT NEW YORK HOSPITAL OF QUEENS, NEW YORK, DR. FAÑA-SOUCHET RELOCATED AND HAS BEEN WORKING IN PRIVATE PRACTICE IN THE TAMPA BAY AREA SINCE 2006. AS AN ADULT PRIMARY CARE PRACTICE, AMA MEDICAL GROUP’S MISSION IS TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF THOSE WE SERVE THROUGH PERSONALIZED, COMPREHENSIVE, AND COMPASSIONATE MEDICAL CARE IN AN ENVIRONMENT BASED ON TRUST AND RESPECT. WE PROVIDE A LIFETIME OF CARING USING OUR GOD-GIVEN TALENTS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF OUR COMMUNITY.

THE NAME AMA SERVES BOTH AS AN ACRONYM AND A WORD IN SPANISH. EACH OF THE LETTERS IN THE WORD AMA IS THE INITIAL OF THE FIRST NAME OF EACH OF THE FOUNDER’S CHILDREN. WHEN THE THREE LETTERS ARE COMBINED, THE WORD AMA IS FORMED AND IT MEANS LOVE IN SPANISH. THIS HAS SIGNIFICANT MEANING BECAUSE AMA REPRESENTS THE FOUNDER’S TWO GREATEST LOVES, THE LOVE OF FAMILY AND MEDICINE.

AMA MEDICAL GROUP IS COMMITTED TO CONSISTENTLY DELIVER HIGH QUALITY HEALTH CARE THAT IS SUPPORTED, NOT ONLY ON ITS FOUNDERS’ EXPERIENCE AND MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE, BUT ALSO ON CHRISTIAN BELIEFS AND RESPECT FOR THE PATIENT AS AN INDIVIDUAL.
