Hi! My name is Sydnee. I am an RBT at The Owen Academy. I have always had a passion for working with children. When I first had experience working with autistic children, I knew it was my calling. I love watching them grow into amazing and talented individuals. Getting the chance to work in ABA has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The Owen Academy has given me the opportunity to pursue what I love and continue to learn and grow myself.

When I am not at work, I enjoy many different creative outlets. I like to sing and dance and draw in my spare time. When given the chance, I also enjoy traveling.

💙 ❄️ 🍕 We are OPEN today and wanted to order pizza for our staff from Geo’s Pizzeria; when we called to place the order, they told us they were donating it!

They have been open and helping people in many ways throughout this winter storm and these are the guys we need to ALWAYS be supporting! Plus, it’s absolutely delicious. 🍕 🤤

❄️ Weather Closure Update for WEDNESDAY 1/28/2026 ❄️

Due to continued unprecedented winter weather conditions that are uncommon for our area, and with all surrounding school districts also closed, The Owen Academy will remain closed for another day to ensure the safety of our staff, clients, and families.

In preparation for reopening, we hired a professional service to plow our alleyway used for drop-off and pick-up today, in hopes that conditions will allow us to safely reopen tomorrow.

We understand how disruptive these closures can be, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate circumstances beyond our control. The safety of our team and the children and families we serve will always come first.

We will continue to monitor road conditions and district closures closely and will communicate updates as soon as decisions are made.

❄️ Weather Closure Notice ❄️

For the safety of our client families and staff, The Owen Academy will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th due to icy and snowy road conditions. We feel it is in everyone’s best interest to prioritize safety.

We know how important routine is for our kiddos, and this decision was not made lightly. Thank you for your understanding and continued trust as we always put the well-being of our families first.

⭐️ HISTORY IS BEING MADE IN DENISON, TX. ⭐️

For the first time in the City of Denison’s history, Profound Autism will be formally recognized and distinguished through an official City Council Proclamation to The Owen Foundation, along with our community of autism families, by Mayor Robert Crawley.

On Monday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m., the City of Denison will proclaim April as Autism Awareness Month and, for the first time ever, designate March 17 as Profound Autism Day.

Profound autism refers to individuals who need ongoing, substantial support in their daily lives. This can include limited or no spoken language, intellectual and developmental disabilities, medical and sensory needs, and a reliance on caregivers for safety, communication, and daily functioning.

Recognizing profound autism is about ensuring that conversations around autism reflect the full spectrum of lived experiences, including those whose needs are complex and lifelong. It affirms that visibility, dignity, and respect belong to every individual, regardless of how they communicate or move through the world.

This historic proclamation represents a meaningful step toward greater understanding, inclusion, and informed support: not only for individuals with profound autism, but for the families, caregivers, educators, and professionals who walk alongside them every day.

We invite our entire community: families, educators, first responders, business leaders, advocates, and neighbors to join us for this important and historic occasion.

City and road crews have been working around the clock to keep up with the significant amount of winter precipitation that has fallen over the past 24 hours. Despite their efforts, roadways remain slick and hazardous.

⚠️ Travel is not recommended at this time.
Please anticipate closures for businesses and schools tomorrow, as conditions are not expected to improve significantly overnight.
