National Black Youth Summit

National Black Youth Summit BLACK GIRLS IN STEM! Inc. is 501(c)3 non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization established to promote STEM Education in Minority Young Women.

We exist to increase the recruitment and retention of women of color in STEM careers, by alleviating isolation through peer-to-peer mentorship. We will work to increase students’ involvement and interaction in STEM curricula and careers and provide them additional encouragement and inspiration to be successful by bridging the gap between institutional services (teachers/school-based organizations) and support systems (college student mentors/professionals). We have created a series of programs and activities that are designed to nurture and encourage the pursuit of STEM careers through hands-on experiences and relationship building. We believe that girls of color should be exposed to appropriate STEM opportunities early in their educational careers and to high-quality science and math classes in lower-income school districts (by supporting teachers’ grants). These students should explore programs that allow underrepresented girls of color to overcome issues linked to educational underachievement, including socioeconomic status, cultural trends, and lack of awareness of STEM opportunities and career fields.
