This past Saturday, we had the privilege of joining the EmpowerU Academy Skilled Trades workshop.

Eric Puckett, our Controls Division Leader, shared his experiences and insights with students, emphasizing the value of hands-on skills, hard work, and continuous learning. It was rewarding to inspire students and show that careers in the skilled trades can lead to meaningful, successful, and fulfilling futures.

We want to thank I am DOPE (Developing Ownership of Personal Empowerment) EmpowerU Academy and Riverside High School for hosting the event and all of the students who participated and asked thoughtful questions. Supporting and educating the next generation about opportunities in the skilled trades is something we are passionate about, and we are grateful to have the chance to make a positive impact.

A huge thank you to Eric Puckett and Lainey Haigler from CMC / Hometown Heating & Air for joining our EmpowerU Academy workshop this Saturday.

Through our partnership with Riverside High School in Durham, students had the opportunity to hear Mr. Puckett give our young learners a powerful look into his personal career journey in the skilled trades. Mr. Puckett showed how hands-on skills, dedication, and continuous learning can lead to meaningful career opportunities and leadership roles. His advice about hard work and staying open to different career pathways gave our students a lot to think about as they begin planning their futures.

We are grateful for community partners like Riverside High School and CMC / Hometown Heating & Air who help us connect students with real-world career experiences and guidance for the future.

🎄 We had such a wonderful time celebrating together at our company Christmas party last night. It was the perfect way to wrap up another year of hard work, growth, and teamwork. We’re hiring a Commercial Service / Start-Up Technician to join our team in Durham, NC! This role handles equipment start-up, commissioning support, factory-assisted start-ups, and 1-year warranty calls. We’re looking for someone experienced, dependable, and skilled in mechanical/HVAC systems who can provide strong technical support in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform equipment start-up and commissioning

Assist with factory start-up procedures

Complete 1-year warranty calls

Accurately complete all start-up documentation

Provide technical support during mechanical equipment installations

Requirements:

5+ years of start-up, service, or controls experience

Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC mechanical systems

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Valid driver’s license

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to meet the physical demands of the role

Required hand tools/electrical meters

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)

Position Title: HVAC Sheet Metal Foreman
Department: Construction
Reports To: Sheet Metal Superintendent

Position Summary
The HVAC Sheet Metal Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the installation of ductwork and sheet metal systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) projects. This role ensures that field crews work safely, efficiently, and according to plans, specifications, and code requirements. The Sheet Metal Foreman serves as the key liaison between project management, other trades, and the installation team, ensuring quality and timely completion of all assigned work.

Key Responsibilities
-Supervise, direct, and schedule daily work activities of sheet metal installers and apprentices.
-Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan duct layout and installation.
-Ensure accurate installation of ductwork, fittings, and accessories for supply, return, and exhaust systems.
-Maintain compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies; lead daily safety meetings and enforce safe work practices.
-Coordinate manpower, materials, tools, and equipment to maintain productivity and schedule.
-Inspect duct installation for accuracy, quality, and adherence to mechanical codes and project requirements.
-Work with project managers, superintendents, and general contractors to resolve field issues and sequencing conflicts.
-Train, mentor, and evaluate apprentices and less experienced crew members.
-Complete daily reports, timecards, and jobsite documentation as required.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment, tools, and jobsite resources.

Qualifications
-Minimum 5+ years of sheet metal/HVAC duct installation experience, with at least 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
-Strong knowledge of HVAC duct fabrication, installation, and mechanical systems.
-Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
-Working knowledge of SMACNA standards and mechanical codes.
-Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
-OSHA 30 certification (preferred) or willingness to obtain.
-Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
-Physically able to lift 50+ lbs and work in various site conditions.
