Youâre not a diagnosis, and your diagnosis is not you. Youâre a human with protective behaviors and patterns that you learned to keep you safe.
While diagnoses can help people feel seen and understood, they can also become a label that feels fixed or unchangeable.
Instead, letâs set that label down for a moment and view these symptoms as something your nervous system learned to help you (even if that something is a behavior you want to change).
When we approach our symptoms with curiosity and compassion, and seek to understand how they meet underlying needs, we can invite change.
Because now there is direction. Now there is understanding. Now there is hope, because we can learn to meet our needs differently. We can learn healthy patterns. And therefore, you CAN change your diagnosis.
