UPDATE: It is sad to learn that former NFL star Nick Mangold has passed away due to complications from kidney disease. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts. We unfortunately lose about 150 people a day from kidney disease in the United States.

Former Jets star Nick Mangold recently shared that he’s battling chronic kidney disease and needs a kidney donor. His courage to speak openly about it reminds us that illness can affect anyone — an athlete, a parent, or a friend — no matter how strong they appear.

Nick’s story is a call for empathy and awareness. Kidney disease affects millions, yet few understand how life-changing a transplant can be.

Former Jets center Nick Mangold, battling chronic kidney disease since a 2006 diagnosis for a rare genetic disorder, went public Tuesday with his need for a kidney transplant.
