More great essential oil (EO) information supported by Pubmed (it just caught up to what the ancients already knew) on how Melissa Oil helps balance out the body via improved brain function!
Melissa EO was evaluated for its antioxidant and neuroprotective properties in a preclinical model representing cognitive decline that mimics features of dementia. Melissa EO eased anxiety and significantly improved memory and executive function that is the set of mental skills that help us plan, focus, remember, and control our behaviors.
Further exploration of its mechanism and molecular targets identified that the EO inhibits AChE activity and by inhibiting AChE, essential oils can increase the levels of acetylcholine in the brain, which helps to improve cognitive function, learning, and memory. In many neurodegenerative diseases, there is a decline in cholinergic neuron function and an increase in AChE levels.
Furthermore, it acted as a powerful antioxidant, restoring the body's key defense enzymes and shutting down damaging oxidative stress. Its major constituents, like geranial and neral, showed remarkable ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (many essential oils do like Frankincense). This research suggests that Melissa EO is a promising multi-targeted solution for neurodegenerative conditions.
