The state government has recently shut the maternity ward at Healesville where both my children were born in a caring nurturing local environment. Will the sell the place off? The quality of care really was excellent, as oppose to some unhappy experience friends have related to me about Maroondah Hospital. If you have got something right you should not change it. Healesville is a growing area with lots of young families, and looking to the future it is going to keep right on growing. I disagree with the Eastern Health CEO Alan Lilly saying the the towns population is aging and that is a reason to shut down the surgical ward. The exact opposite is true. Now is the time to expand the day surgery service to locally meet the needs of the population. At the meeting the CEO said the surgical ward at Lilydale was underutilised. The elective surgery waiting list is a joke, so why is the Lilydale surgery not doing something about the horrendous backlog? Both wards need to be operating full time, all the time. Shutting Healesville is just wrong. I urge you all to do the online Eastern Health survey, and tell Cindy Mcleish MP how you feel too. Seymour is a very marginal electoral, and only her intervention at state government level can save our hospital.
