February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and lasting impact of African Americans throughout U.S. history. It began in 1926 as a week-long celebration to highlight accomplishments and grew into Black History Month in 1976 to honor the vital role Black Americans have played in shaping our nation.
From influential leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Thurgood Marshall to trailblazers like Mae Jemison and President Barack Obama, Black history is American history. This month—and throughout the year—we are encouraged to learn, reflect, and celebrate the cultural, social, and historical contributions that continue to inspire progress and unity.
