The Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation is a charitable organization (503c) to benefit the next generation of speech, language, and audiology professionals, current professionals of speech-language pathology and audiology, and individuals with communication disorders through honorary recognition or financial support.

Here is an update from Anna.....I recently celebrated my 10-year anniversary at University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor. I am a Senior Head and Neck Cancer Speech Pathologist in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery. My role focuses on head and neck cancer rehabilitation including evaluation and management/treatment of verbal communication and swallowing as well as evaluation and management of alaryngeal communication, specifically related to tracheoesophageal speech. Since the time of receiving this award, I have been able to present at the local, state and national level and have been actively involved in research related to communication and swallowing outcomes as it relates to the head and neck cancer patient. I am fortunate to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinic - I truly love what I do and am grateful to be here!

At 81 years old, I am incredibly grateful for the audiologists who have supported me throughout my hearing journey—from many years of hearing aid use to receiving my cochlear implant. Their knowledge, patience, and dedication have truly changed my life and helped me stay connected to the people and moments that matter most.

Meet the Alice Silbergleit! Dr. Silbergleit is currently serving her 2nd year on the MSHF board as the Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

She cares for patient in the outpatient hospital setting. She is constantly inspired by the individuals she treats and loves that you learn something new every day in the field of speech-language pathology.

When asked what the MSHF board means to her, Dr. Silbergleit stated, “The goal of the Foundation is to provide scholarships to graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology. Members of the Foundation understand the high cost of education and how hard students work in the field of communication disorders and sciences. The most meaningful part of being on the Foundation board to me is having the opportunity to relieve some of the financial burden for students.”

Let’s thank Dr. Silbergleit for all the hard work accomplished and achievements yet to come during her time with the MSHF board!
