New project alert! 🚨
This one is incredibly sweet, and means a whole lot to me. To my delight, wrote an article about the home which I’ll link to in my bio and stories.
The home is a humble, 1960’s rambler a few blocks off Lake Superior in Grand Marais MN; one of my favorite places in the whoooole world. It’s a small artist and outdoor enclave just 30 minutes from the Canadian border. What started with an Expert consult in early Covid ended with a whole home renovation that took almost 3 years. There was no fancy architect or GC involved, as our clients wanted to do the work themselves (which as you designers know can be a red flag!) but I knew they could do it. After all, he was born and raised in Grand Marais. From the get go, they trusted me and I them. We had the chance to start from scratch on this home, designing the locations of all the windows, new layout, bathrooms and kitchen and even the exterior materials. It was a chance for me to flex my architectural skills, and lean into this very particular Grand Marais aesthetic. All of this is talked about in the article, I hope you read it. ❤️

*some bonus pics at the end, marking some special moments along the way

Thanks always to , and for writing this sweet article.

Steam shower ASMR. You’re welcome.

Some of you know from my previous posts, getting the shower dialed in for our newly renovated primary suite was basically the WHY in our renovation. We wanted something luxe, private, spa-like. I wanted sensory deprivation so went with cocooning oxblood tile. We also opted to put in a steam shower from as my husband looooves steaming. I am more of a sauna gal, but now I’m 100% converted. It’s incredible. And honestly I’m not mad about the water droplet sounds that come along with it, haha.

I’m a solid 4 years from being an empty nester but we *did* very much consider our next life stage when renovating our home last year. More about that today in the - link in my stories!

This is my kitchen. 💁🏼‍♀️ When we moved in, the kitchen had JUST been renovated. It was white cabinets with a white subway backsplash and white quartz tops. It was great for the previous owners but I desperately wanted to bump up the personality. We waited a couple years, trying to figure out how to invest in a brand new kitchen and make it “ours” without throwing money out the window. You guys get it! So many people have the same conundrum.
I was looking at marble slabs for a client and found *the one*. It was the most beautiful Calcutta Monet. We decided this was the investment. We’d replace the quartz tops with real, beautiful marble. We painted the walls and ceiling a dirty cream, added some art and now it feels like us.

Do I want to pant the cabinets everyday? YES. Will we?Only time will tell…😆

When tasked with designing this primary suite addition to an existing 1930’s Mediterranean, it was all about the precedent architecture. We wanted a whole wall of storage in the bedroom, to hide a TV and clothing. Rather than using a typical crown or cove moulding, I decided to use a rope moulding for the ceiling as well as the cabinet door profile. I love how it turned out. The sexy, tonal furniture and plaster walls? Icing on the cake. 🍰

🚨 New project share! So excited to finally show off this beauty. I started working with Michelle LeBlanc about three years ago on her space, shortly after she bought this 1920’s Mediterranean in Minneapolis and asked us to help her with the primary suite renovation and a good old fashioned glow up. We touched almost every surface in the end: lighting, plaster and paint, hardware and furniture. And so much drapery ✨. It’s a project that pushed me into a very feminine albeit self-assured and sturdy place. Michelle turned into a dear friend throughout this project, and I’m so happy to finally share the photos.

Thank you for sharing it on Introspective. 🙏🏼

Photo Styling (such a fun shoot 💝) and shout out to all the extra hands and helpers! 👏🏼

I’m excited to bring y’all into my pretty pretty bathroom over the next week or so. We completely gut reno’d it last year and are SO happy with the way it turned out. One of our favorite things is the steam shower we put in. When I say we use it daily I’m not exaggerating. It makes long winters just a bit more bearable. 😶‍🌫️✨

Every house has a story, this is ours.

Part 6:

Maybe this is love letter to that person, which is *every person* I see fighting the good fight right now. I got you, I see you. I’m not going anywhere. Because Minneapolis is HOME.

Photo 1-2: Primary bathroom, more to come on the renovation we did here. But to say that I get excited to use my own bathroom would be an understatement. We looove her.
