~Pelvic Floor~.
What is it?
~ A group of muscles that sits like a sling within the pelvis and plays a vital role in providing stability, support, & daily function.
~It works to provide support for pelvic floor organs, stability to the low back, hip & pelvis, and controls bowels, bladder, and sexual function. ~ Look at it as part of a âcanisterâ system that works as a unit for proper pressure! ~Multifiti-works to support the lower back, pelvis and hips and trunk through movement.
~Diaphragm-works to modulate intraabdominal pressure through respiration. ~Transverse Abdominus-supports lower back, pelvis & hips,& trunk through movement.
~Pelvic Floor Muscles - pelvic organ that supports, bowel, bladder and sexual function, works along side the diaphragm to regulate intraabdominal pressure & lumbo pelvic stability. When strength training/weight lifting you are training the pelvic floor. Its a learning curve and technique to make all the âcanisterâ system work together. Starting this when you are young and building a strong foundation is a key factor to maintaining a strong pelvic floor through out your years! For many years all we listened to was ,âitâs just part of child bearing and aging, I disagree! The pelvic floor is no different than any other muscle group! If you donât use it, you loose it! If you donât train it, it weakens and its purpose doesnât work at its best! ~ The next đthought ? Is it too late? The answer is NO! There is always a way to improve and or stop/slow the weakening process! ~ Here is another reason to start a strength training lifestyle! ~ And guess what, pregnancy isnât a reason to quit strength training! ( only if your Dr tells you to, but most will not ) But all that is for another post! The pelvic floor topic seems to arise once pregnancy does! đ so just throwing that inđ.
