If your’e Billing Telehealth codes, You’ll want to make sure you are aware of these 2024 changes….
Just to simplify it...
📌 You can just say Goodbye to In-Person Place of Service + Modifier 95:
From 1st January 2024, Medicare introduces new telehealth coding. No more juggling with in-person place of service codes and Modifier 95.
Per CMS guidelines, Modifier 95 is used when physician is in the hospital and patient is at home or receiving an outpatient therapy televisit from OT, PT and SLP, until Dec. 2024.
🏠 Place of Service 10: Use this when your client is at home during the session. And guess what? 'Home' is broadly defined - it can be a hotel, shelter, or even a parked car for privacy.
🌐 Place of Service 02: This is for clients located elsewhere than at home. Keep in mind, using POS 02 incorrectly may lead to a reduced reimbursement rate as it's meant for facility-hosted sessions.
✂️ Cutting out Modifier 95: No need for Modifier 95 (or GT) anymore, making your billing process smoother.
What You Need to Do:
Document your client's location for every session.
Remember, notes without this info might be considered deficient in audits, potentially affecting reimbursements.
You can always refer to the CMS guideline update for the full breakdown
🤔 Uncertain about Client Locations Like Workplaces?:
If your client is at work, it's a gray area. A practical tip? Ask them to relocate to a private space like their car, considering safety and weather conditions.
This change is all about making telehealth billing more straightforward and user-friendly. Your documentation will play a key role, so ensure it's up to date.
